US Dollar in Cambodia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

But that’s all good info, $20’s and $100’s will be all I will need initially and then exchange for riel.
in Thailand 50 's give the same rate as 100's

ATMS in Cambodia give out 10's & 20's, ( at least al the ones i use)
no reason to exchange to riel, as u will get plenty ni change
When you're in the provinces you only use riel well that's my experience.

I prefer the use of riels, sellers are so crazy about any small tear, stamp or spot on a dollar note the chance I get into trouble is simply too large. I also use the QR code of my bank app way more than before.

But... for larger purchases USD come in handy because not all sellers have a QR for ACLEDA, it looks like ABA is King in that department.

I remember that drove me nuts in Ratanakiri. Even trying to exchange $100 bills at Wing was a nightmare, so I ended up bringing over $1000 back to Phnom Penh next trip I made because no one would take them without a fee.

It is. For some reason they're super cautious here with large USD bills.

I think it might have to do with the chance of receiving counterfeit bills in the higher denomination? a lot more to lose if changing counterfeit 100's?
