Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): A business woman, while riding in a tuktuk with her husband to visit her children, was robbed by a bagsnatcher on a motorbike in broad daylight at 3 pm on February 12, 2022 National Road No. 4, next to the traffic light at the corner of Chhnang Blvd., Sangkat Choam Chao III, Khan Por Senchey, Phnom Penh.

The victim, Im Sophorn, 41 years old, is a trader living in Kandal province with her husband. She said that they were going to visit their children's house in Toul Pong market, Khan Por Sen Chey, riding along the national road 4 from west to east, when suddenly a man riding a white motorcycle drove up from behind the tuktuk, quickly seized her bag, and then drove off very fast, almost before she realized that she had been robbed. The thief escaped into the traffic, and the victims did not have time to see his motorcycle license plate number.

The lost items from the woman's handbag include US$ 1,800, more than 3 million Khmer Riel, 5G gold bracelets, necklaces, earrings, ID cards, credit cards, and other items, all worth more than $ 3,000.

After the incident, the couple went to file a complaint at the Chaom Chao 3 police station to ask for intervention.

It was Saturday afternoon and she was going to visit her children so at a wild guess perhaps she wasn't working at the time

To re-use the Cambodian comment I've heard all too often when it's a foreigner who was the victim of theft, "They can just buy the jewelry again, and get their credit cards reissued. The thief needed it more than the victim so it's ok."

Funny how that sentiment isn't accepted when it's a rich Khmer victim. A 41 year old woman who has children who have their own house already? They can afford to lose 'the little' that was taken from them. It's ok. Plus, it's her fault for having that much and not safely protecting it. When people walk around with that much money they're asking for trouble.

I always carry $1800 and gold with me when I go see my kids, seems strange they don't have a car

I guess they're not that 'rich'.

Great to have you back on here with your victim-blaming and loathing of Khmers. :?

C'mon, admit it. You missed me.

And if you were smart enough to carefully read and understand my post, you'd know it's not my victim blaming. I was simply using the exact same victim blaming argument that I and countless other foreigners have received - from and by Khmers - when our things were stolen.

I've never come across any report that said anything like that. It's usually foreigners with the worst attitudes towards locals who get complain about being victimized. No great surprise that you feel victimized then.
