Re: The current exodus to Cambodia
Yes, this post is BS. What actually happened is that the Vietnamese Government decided (adnittedly at very short notice) to stop issuing automatic visa extensions for people who were stranded in Vietnam due to the Covid situation. Up until then , for people who had entered Vietnam with any sort of valid visa after 1st March 2020, were given automatic extensions of stay, as obviously, they were unable to leave Vietnam , as the borders were closed.I don't believe they are currently issuing new tourist visas just yet , but there is talk all the time of the borders re=opening, visa issuing re-starting and VEC 's being re-issued as well.La Quenta wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 12:33 pm A few weeks ago Vietnam decided to cancel/void all visas in the country not tied to Work Permit or a Marriage.
This means possibly thousands living in Vietnam are looking for a temporary or permanent new home. Many are choosing Cambodia.
This is good news for anyone in Phnom Penh etc. who is running a foreigner/expat centric business. You'll possibly double your existing customer base over the coming weeks/months.

Vietnam is issuing Tourist Visas at this time.
Correction, end of March. The only Tourist Visas being issued now are for group tours.

I did write "a few", so "most" isn't really a good comeback. There are always edge cases. People who work lose their job, people who are married get divorced, people who study graduate, etc. etc. Then you have idiots who screw up their paperwork and need some extra time to renew their proper extension. Even Richard Barrow needed a stop-gap Covid extension last year LOL.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 4:22 pmWhy? most people on non O , ( married, retired, volunteer) B, ( working) visas are on yearly extensions and not reliant on covid extensions>

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

All tourist and business visas in country are affected, regardless of the March 1st date or not.
Those without issues are:
1. Sponsored Business Visas (legit ones anyway)
2. TRC holders
3. Investor Visa Holders
Any tourist visa or business visa in country not in those categories is being asked to leave the country. Usually that is a simple overnight border run, however it is currently not an option to get back IN. Therefore, many heading to other countries for an extended period, Cambodia being the easiest and most convenient option.
You can believe it or not, not here to convince you personally.

I call it BS , or misinformation , or incorrect statements-whatever-What you seem to fail to grasp, is that there is currently no-one in Vietnam with a valid tourist visa,(apart from a few recent visitors on group tours) they all expired a long time ago,but because of the Covid situation the Vietnamese Government allowed them to stay with a series of visa waivers. Now they have ended that system , and told people they must regularise their visa situation, which is fair enough really. As I said originally, there wasn't a lot of notice given , which was regrettable , but people must have known that this would happen eventually. Most or all of those affected were not resident in Vietnam , but were here on short term visits, which turned into a lot longer than they anticipated . And also , your list of people unaffected should include VEC (Visa Exemption Certificates) holdersLa Quenta wrote: ↑Mon Feb 14, 2022 8:50 pmIt isn't BS.oasisbarhatien wrote: ↑Mon Feb 14, 2022 8:08 amYes, this post is BS. VEC's represent an extremely small number of people, hence the lack of need to name them.
You have jumped straight to thinking I am having a go at Vietnam. On the contrary, I am not having an opinion on Vietnam's Visa policy at all.
All I am doing is relaying the correct and accurate information that all tourist visas and business visas unattached to permit applications are not being renewed. And subsequently, many of those people are turning to Cambodia as an alternative short term or long term.
It isn't BS.
Re: The current exodus to Cambodia
This is the second 'sweep', more were affected & left (voluntarily or not) the first time.
Vietnam to's & fro's in this & I suspect they'll change again soon.
I know several leaving Vn for Cambo & fair play to them. Comparing prices directly, I'd say Cambodia is cheaper for rent, beer, eating out etc etc.
Vn (especially Saigon) is not cheap now.
Hooray for Cambodia, one little tear for those who think they can just reside on a tourist visa in any land, not the brightest move.
