Women Get 1 Year Off Sentences for Trafficking Counterfeit Dollars
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On February 8, 2022, in the Phnom Penh Court of Appeal, two women prisoners received a one year reduction from the five year sentences that they were given after they pleaded guilting of trafficking counterfeited dollar notes.
The suspects were originally arrested on February 7, 2019, and were convicted to 5 years in prison on February 7, 2020. The evidence seized included 740 counterfeited US dollar notes of different denominations, a motorbike, and 2 cellphones. The suspects were Ly Sreypov, called Tey, a 39-year-old woman, a fruit seller, and Chan Saveth, a 56-year-old woman.
