This Omicron is running thru the world's population like a hot knife thru butter. Almost 130 destinations now officially ranked "avoid travel" for US citizens

After more than six months in the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's lower-risk Level 3 travel category, Mexico moved into "very high" risk Level 4 on Monday along with 11 other destinations.
Tourism powerhouse Mexico had been listed at Level 3 since June 7. A record-high number of new Covid-19 cases has been recorded this month in Mexico.
Among the 12 destinations added to Level 4, five were in South America: Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay and French Guiana (an overseas territorial collectivity of France).
In the Caribbean, Anguilla and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines moved into Level 4.
Singapore and the Philippines in Southeast Asia also moved into the highest-risk category, as did Moldova and Kosovo in Europe.

its time to just let everybody catch it thats going to ( said this months ago) and just move on

'Very high risk' of what? Catching it? Being hospitalised by it? Dying from it?

Getting a bit fed up now with vague sensationalist headlines such as 'Infections doubling every day' or 'Omicron infections out of control'.

It's not the infections per se that are the issue anymore. It is the risk that the infections bring with them. Of course more infections mean more hospitalisations and more deaths, but the risk to the individual of hospitalisation or death is significantly lower now with Omicron, than it was two years ago with an unvaccinated population dealing with Alpha / Delta.

I agree that it's now time to 'let it rip' and get it over and done with. Get everything back to normal and let's just take our chances, like we do with many other diseases and infections that could strike us at any time.

Sounds like there is a Covid crisis brewing in Mexico. Can't wait to see the dancing Mexican nurses videos on Tic Toc.

I've got some friends who have been in Mexico having the times of their lives since September after recovering from Covid they got in the States.

All the trip reports out of Mexico that I've read have been overwhelmingly positive. It seems to be one of those precious few countries that offer the cure for those suffering from pandemic fatigue and are sick and tired of the paranoia in CDC Land (and elsewhere).

The US departments always over dramatize everything and overreact.

My friend went down there and came back with COVID the next day.

On the other thread you said you’ve traveled to “do not travel” countries and had no problems.

Maybe that’s why they have the advisories.

I’m in Mexico right now, and from what I can see, everyone is carrying on as normally as possible.
The market was completely packed this morning, felt like about 50% had masks on. Many people wearing them on their chins too.

It’s my first time here. Nice country, some unbelievable scenery, great food, but it’s not the single man’s paradise that SEA is - not even close.
Language barrier is big, and I’m having a pretty hard time meeting other foreigners to hang out with too. Some level of Spanish is essential, unless you want to stay in a resort. I wish I’d practiced a lot more before I came here.
Only place I’ve visited that felt remotely dangerous was Tijuana.

I still miss Asia like crazy, but they won’t get my money until they loosen up.

Covid is the last thing on my mind right now. I wear a mask where I have to, in an effort to not piss the locals off, but I don’t feel like anyone cares when I walk around without one.
