Oknha Shows Off Adorable Pet Tiger Cub

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Isn't this cute ? Oknha Plays with his Pet Tiger Cub
Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): Mr. Oknha Mong Reththy, a senator and a millionaire in agriculture, is raising a tiger cub for entertainment.
Image
He posted a photo with a 3-month-old tiger cub and he was feeding the baby tiger that he has named Radar. According to Tycoon Mong Reththy, the tiger cub was given to him by Tycoon Tea Vichet, the son of Tea Vinh, and nephew of Tea Banh.

It seems odd that the tycoon has decided to post his new wildlife pet on social media, considering all the scandal that was created around the rich Chinese man and his pet lion. Or perhaps this is the "new normal" ?
However: post498801.html#p498801
[Phnom Penh Prey Chey Administration Director] said that people do not have the right to raise wild animals, which is a rare species, which is contrary to the law and Article 49 of the Law on Forestry, paragraph 2 in point 3, which states that the ownership of keeping zoos or endangered species is prohibited.

Khmers really loved the other dude (mostly foreigners who were upset), so maybe he just wants attention and to be cool as well? I just find it odd how they never seem to question the relations between people...

We should all get tiger cubs, it's obviously kosher now in KOW.

Out of curiosity I googled "where are the most tigers kept as pets" and apparently Texas has between 2,000 and 5,000 tigers that are kept as pets. By comparison, there are estimated to less than 4,000 left in the wild.

Puts things in perspective a little considering the amount of pearl clutching that went off the last time a story like this broke.

There may be lots of captive bred big cats in the US, China and other places. However keeping endangered species is generally frowned upon as it leads to more pressure on wild populations and encourages poaching.

Not google checked this next statement I am about to make, but...

Wouldn't a large captive population of pet tigers make it easier to breed them for sale rather than the much more complex route of capturing a wild tiger?
And, No. I didn't watch that Netflix series on the tiger guy/gal.

How about a Cambodia sequel to the Tiger King Netflix series? Plenty of Tiger King candidates, but I wonder who'd get to be the Khmer version of Carole Baskin.
