Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

How difficult is it to run a single track with a few siding? The rail system here is so crap. One single track line to Poipet built by the French way back and one single track built by the Chinese in the 1960s to Sihanoukville. The renovation about a decade back sorted out all the bent up tracks from the war but wasn't any real improvement on the pre-war situation. Maybe time to update it to a double track system - one for each direction?

Using local knowledge, wouldn’t someone with a heavier or faster train going the same way just drive on the wrong side? Just saying…

Why are you trying to complicate the situation. Who is going to decide which track is for trains in which direction.?

^^^ Look on the bright side, it reduces the chances of being killed while sleeping on the tracks by 50%.

Or, does that double the chances?

Even if they did have 2 tracks, they'd probably just use one track for all the trains, and keep the other as a spare :)

Wouldn't have helped here. One train rear ended the other.

But at the very least they need more passing bays or whatever the correct rail term is. Sometimes the passenger trains sit for half an hour on a siding mid-trip, waiting for a freight train to pass.
