Found wallet

Post by GARVEY »

I found a wallet at about 6:30 this morning on Street 240 between the riverside and the Palace Gate hotel.

There was a significant amount of money - to me anyway - inside the wallet but no ID. There were three different currencies inside.

There were also two business cards inside, one from a taxi driver in Siem Reap and one from an establishment outside Cambodia.

If it's your wallet please message me and if you can describe the wallet or business cards and say how about much was inside I'll give it back.

If I don't hear anything I will probably turn it into the tourist police as I believe it must belong to a tourist.

Thank you.

Any reason to think it can't be a local Cambodian's wallet? I feel like it could easily be a TukTuk driver's wallet. Odd that a foreigner would have a wallet with all that cash but not a single thing with your name on it. What's the overseas business card?

I don’t think it belongs to a local. The wallet itself is unusual I doubt they are sold here.

Just hold onto it for awhile, I wouldn't hand it in the money will be gone in minutes, do something nice to someone with the $$ if owner can't be notified.

I'd suggest asking the Palace Gate Hotel as you mention it; there's nothing really around that area that a tourist would be visiting; is the palace itself even open during COVID?

That to me suggest a guest staying at the hotel has gone for a walk along riverside & made a very bad start to their day!

Kudos for trying.

I've lost money like that a few times but never reported it or gave any effort to getting it back. Shit happens someone else will be happy at least.

Remember once forgetting a money belt with 400$ under my pillow. I realized many hours away and thought that must be one happy cleaning lady.

Though chances are she gave it to the reception and it just became one lucky hotel owner in the end. Who knows, but I prefer to think of it like she won :)

So you left $400 in a hotel room and never thought of ringing reception?

I had arrived in a small village in the north of Brazil after an exhausting day of traveling. We had no electricity or even running water. Just chalked it off as a learning experience. Money belts are only safe when on your body!
