Can see all iPhone users being unhappy converting to the brothers of the Chinese market.

Why? Iphone is no different using a VPN, has nothing to do with OS or hardware.

It's just adding another layer on top of your internet connection.

Hard to believe to be honest. Most modern phones have a VPN app installed by default in Android.
I believe this is incorrect, on both Android and IOS, in settings there is a place to manage VPNs, however there is not a default vpn profile. With no profile, there is no VPN, even if you installed one but did not set it up, there wouldn’t be the requisite information to make the connection. If there was one(default), Cyberghost for example, that would run afoul of many different laws, from antitrust to possibly GDPR, probably others.
On both IOS and Android there are firewall apps i.e. Lockdown, and rethinkdns (and many others, those are examples) that create an on device “vpn” that use the native VPN service function. They are not VPNs, but use the functionality. I would imagine they would be frowned upon as well.

I apologize for the formatting .

The OP I replied to was:
so just by having a vpn on ur laptop/phone ur fucked
I guess the key word here is 'having'. Most phones 'have' it by default, but to use it you need to fill in your own servers etc.

My apologies for misreading what you wrote. I still believe that while the functionality is there, it does not mean that it is enabled.

I don't know. Last time I was in China was nearly three years ago and my VPN (NordVPN) wouldn't work there, even if I selected the the special service (obisfucated?) despite their claim it would work.

It's all going to depend on the software they will use running the node.
