Australia via PM HE Asks Myanmar to Release an Australian Professor
09/01/22 16:09
Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 8 – The Australian government asked Cambodian prime minister HE to directly request Myanmar's senior general Min Aung Hlaing to release an Australian professor detained in Myanmar.

Cambodian foreign minister Prak Sokhonn spoke at the press conference on Saturday at the Phnom Penh International Airport upon concluding official visit to Myanmar.

"In response to a written request from Australian foreign minister Marise Payne addressed to premier HE, the latter has conveyed the message to Myanmar regarding the detention of an Australian professor in Myanmar. A very succinct well-written article:
These Singaporean former diplomats always act as if they are the smartest race in Southeast Asia. They are the smartest breed that cannot understand the complexities of issues, and they are good at putting all the blame on poorer and weaker countries. They are the smartest in framing Cambodia as the single culprit for the non-consensus of the Joint Communique in 2012 regarding the century-old South China Sea territorial disputes.

Their smartest brains can simplify the complexities of negotiation that no one can emulate them.

Their simple conclusion is that Cambodia was the only country to blame. And now, Cambodia is responsible again for dividing ASEAN. What is wrong with them?

They despise poorer nations and seek to exclude the latter from their rank and exclusive club. They promote public agenda on expelling Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar from ASEAN, and they block Timor-Leste from entering ASEAN. Poor countries should not be part of their family.

ASEAN chair Cambodia says Myanmar FM not welcome at this month's ASEAN meet

ASEAN's chair Cambodia says the Myanmar junta's Foreign Minister Wunna Maung Lwin will not be invited to attend the ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting in Phnom Penh this month, VOA reports.

The junta foreign minister cannot come as there has been little progress with ASEAN's 5-Point Consensus, according to Cambodian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Chum Sounry, speaking with VOA.

The meeting of the 10-member bloc is due to be held February 16-17.

Sounry says Myanmar has been asked to send a "non-political" representative to the meeting, VOA reports.

Some members of the Association of South East Asian Nations reportedly looked askance at the recent visit January 7-8 of Cambodian PM HE to Naypyitaw, as it was seen as a lone venture without the backing of ASEAN member states.

HE said he had been trying to help bring peace to conflict-ridden Myanmar and was concerned about the danger of ASEAN in effect losing one of its members.

Love the subject "taking matters into his own hands" - it's got a bunch fo Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis, edge to it.

Myanmar Releases the Detained Australian Professor as Per PM HE’s Request
07/02/22 14:03
Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 7 – Myanmar reportedly released the detained Australian professor Sean Turnell on 6 February 2022 as per Cambodian prime minister HE’s request.

“The release is indeed the senior general’s credit, but at least I also contributed as the rotating chair of ASEAN,” the premier spoke at the inauguration ceremony for the official use of China-aided National Road No. 7 rehabilitation project in Kratie province on Monday.

"During the talks with senior general Min Aung Hlaing on 7-8 January 2022, Cambodian premier has raised the case of professor Sean Turnell as requested by Australian foreign minister and the general has given his assurance that he will reconsider the case once the judiciary process is over,” Cambodian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson Chum Sounry told Fresh News late Sunday (6 Feb).

“Professor Turnell's detention is unjust, and we reject the allegations against him,” Australian foreign minister Marise Payne said in a statement released on Sunday.
