Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On January 4, 2022, the police cracked down on the production and distribution of counterfeit JET and 555 cigarettes by the Hong International Cigarette Factory located on Ang Taminh street, Trung Moan village, Khan Sen Sok in Phnom Penh.

According to the police, a police report was first filed on September 21, 2020, accusing the factory of producing and distributing fake cigarettes. Then, on January 3, 2022, the police stopped and searched a Hyundai truck (PNH 2J-5930) driven by a 38-year-old man, Nea Naren, at the Koh Dong traffic light in Sangkat Boeung Salang, Khan Toul Kork. They discovered that the truck was delivering counterfeit cigatettes from the Hong Cigarette Factory; 47 cartons of fake JET cigarettes were confiscated.


The next morning, on January 4, 2022, at 8:50 am, a search warrant for the factory was issued and a police raid found fake JET and 555 cigarettes being produced on the premises.

Evidence seized by the police includes:
- 139.45kgs of raw materials
- Packed JET cigarettes: 47 packs or 140 packages in the equivalent of 23,640 small packages
- 4,866 pieces of VAT and VN DUTY NOT PAID seal stamps
- 7 cigarettes producing machines
- 2 cigarettes buds rolling machines

The evidence was confiscated and the factory was shut down temporarily. One owner of the leased factory, Ngov Mok, female, was detained for further investigation, while her husband, Ngov Srun, escaped the arrest and is being sought by police.

UPDATE: New Arrest

A man has been arrested following a raid on a Phnom Penh warehouse that was responsible for counterfeiting Jet and 555 cigarettes on an industrial scale.

The Investigating Judge of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court issued an order to detain Ngov Mok, 72 years old, the director of Bari Hong International Company, which was raided on January the 4th by the Phnom Penh authorities. Police arrested his wife at the scene, but her husband was nowhere to be found.
