Pope slams ‘selfish’ couples who have pets instead of kids
And they wonder why the Catholic church is declining.
This also puts a new light on overpopulation. Does it refer to humans only or humans and their pets? After all, they are still mouths to feed..
Fur babies do not have his blessing.
Pope Francis, 85, had some choice words for the childless at the Vatican on Wednesday. In remarks to a general audience, the Catholic Church head called out couples who have chosen not to have children and opted to have pets instead.
“Today we see a form of selfishness,” the pope said, according to Fox News. “We see that some people do not want to have a child. Sometimes they have one, and that’s it, but they have … dogs and cats that take the place of children.”
He suggested that couples who can’t bear children should look into adoption — the cost of which can tally up to $70,000, according to Child Welfare Information Gateway.
“How many children in the world are waiting for someone to take care of them,” the pope went on. “It is a risk, yes: Having a child is always a risk, either naturally or by adoption,” the Argentina-born leader said. “But it is riskier not to have them. It is riskier to deny fatherhood, or to deny motherhood, be it real or spiritual.”
He went on to suggest that there might be something wrong with people who have chosen not to have children.
“A man or woman who do not develop the sense of fatherhood or motherhood, they are lacking something, something fundamental, something important.”

The world needs leaders who are old enough to have some life experience along with knowledge, but not so old that they are senile or completely out of touch with reality.
Oh, well…
Oh, well…

LOL. Remind me how many kids he has again ? The Vatican must be the most kid-free country in the world. He went on to suggest that there might be something wrong with people who have chosen not to have children.
But let''s not let facts get in the way of a good sound-bite.

Pope Francis offers hope to faithless, says atheists can go to heaven

Pope Francis says God opens heaven's doors to non-believers who "obey their conscience," shaking a widely-held assumption about Christian beliefs and reinforcing his image as the most progressive pontiff in history.
"You ask me if the God of the Christians forgives those who don't believe and who don't seek the faith," Francis wrote in a little known 2013 open letter published in the Italian newspaper La Repubblica. Francis was responding to questions from the paper's 91-year-old founder Eugenio Scalfari, reports Britain's The Independent.
"I start by saying -- and this is the fundamental thing -- that God's mercy has no limits if you go to him with a sincere and contrite heart," Francis wrote. "The issue for those who do not believe in God is to obey their conscience. Sin, even for those who have no faith, exists when people disobey their conscience."

Re: Pope slams ‘selfish’ couples who have pets instead of kids
I didn't ever think I'd say this, but I agree with his sentiment. There is nothing more perverse than watching an adult couple fawning over a dog, talking to it as though it were a human and attaching emotions to it that it can't feel. When a grown man is chasing after a dog and picking up its shit from the street, that is Darwinism on its head. Carbon footprint argument is a moot point as the carbon footprint of a dog in the west is, I am sure, much higher than an Indian villager.

Re: Pope slams ‘selfish’ couples who have pets instead of kids
the world might be a better place if many parents DID have pets instead of kids
to drive a car you need a license
to have a pet you need a license
to own a gun you need a license
to open a shop/restaurant/bar you need a license
to have a kid ..all you got to do is fuck
who is he to tell the world to have more kids?

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Re: Pope slams ‘selfish’ couples who have pets instead of kids
The Pope made a speech encouraging people to adopt orphans and also called for the laws around adoption to be simplified and the process made easier.
Fox News then buried the lede and twisted it into a diatribe against pets in order to get you lot riled up, and it worked.

Oh the fucking irony, the Pope championing the welfare of children.
Has any other group done more harm to kids than Catholic priests? (the nuns aren’t much better) or done more to protect the perpetrators of sexual abuse of kids?
When it comes to the Catholic Church, the less said about children the better.
