Cambodia to Introduce Lifetime Angkor Pass to Foreigners in 2022 (Ministry of Tourism)

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

why would a tourist need a lifetime pass? Wait till they come out with the cost before you say, "wow, cool"

No stats, but unlike Thailand where there is over 50% return visitors, doubt Cambodia its 10% ( excluding Chinese, Koreans and Vietnamese)

Exactly this ^^^^^

Wait till you see the price, which is the key missing element from all the reports. There are not even estimates. Also, once you've seen it why would you want to come all the way back to see it again even if you do have a lifetime pass?

The price of the tickets is high for what is nothing more than a load of old ruins costing $37, $62 and $72, respectively. If they think foreign tourists will pay $200+ for a lifetime pass they are dreaming.

Anyway, with people like this involved in the process, this plan will probably get smothered in the crib.

Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Cambodia chapter chairman Thourn Sinan, who attended the August 8 meeting, welcomed the prospects of an “Angkor Lifetime Pass”, underscoring that the initiative would require the participation of all stakeholders.

“This work will demand us to put up the funds to support these tour packages, as Siem Reap province must be treated like a budding maiden. (what?)

“In addition, we must pay attention to service and pricing matters given how much Siem Reap is developing, and in doing so, all of us tourism players and stakeholders must refrain from overreliance on the tourism ministry, which has already done quite enough in the area,” he said.

Sounds like they are going to try to fleece a lot more money out of the foreigners.

Some sources said living in Cambodia for 2 years, some said living and working in Cambodia for 2 years.
IMHO (H for humble), this may be in the procedural stage for not insignificant amounts of time.

If my recent experience at the ticket booth is indicative, the income from ticket sales is very low atm.
otoh, the number of visitors (at the weekend at least) is high. That will be good for the vendors but bad for the income from ticket sales (and bad for the tour guides as the Khmers don't go for that).
It is good business practice for them to think about ways to increase income from ticket sales.
It's like those subscriptions you take out where there is an annual membership and a life membership fee.
Of course if customers do go for it, the effect is to increase income at the front end and decrease it at the back end.
Or, if you guys are right and few of the takers will ever in fact return, then it gets more revenue out of the those who go for it. Which is fair enough, it's all open and transparent.

It all depends on the final price of that lifetime ticket. I would buy one if the cost was 99$.
work is for people who cant find truffles

Day pass $37, probably visit once a year either with friends/family or on biz trips up that way, live to 100, future value of the dollar near zero ... so anything less than $1500 is a pretty good deal? Sold!

If it is going to be free for anyone that has 2 years living here then tourists are the only ones left.

By tourist, I also mean someone that spends half the year here and half back ‘home’

Visited the Apsara ticket office in Siem Reap today. NOBODY knew of (or anything about) a free pass for foreigners who had been living in Cambodia for 2+ years.

Came away with the impression (perhaps lost in translation) that the sale of 6- and 12- month tickets that were introduced during 2020 might either come to an end or be reviewed in December 2023.

Hardly surprising considering it's still in the discussion stages and nothing official has been announced.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
