Try Dana, "Jewellery Queen", Accuses Husband "Uncle Mao" of Domestic Violence
A reminder that domestic violence affects all classes of society, and is not a problem that can be blamed on poverty or difficult living conditions.
[Unfortunately, it is also a reminder of the power that social media posts have in the Cambodian system of justice.]
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh) 29 December 2021 -- A few months ago, when Ms. Try Dana decided to part ways with her ex-husband, Mr. Hing Sopanharith (aka Uncle Mao), she alleged that "Uncle Mao" beat her up and was very violent, and even threatened to shoot her, and the culminated threat of violence made it unbearable to live with her husband.
Last night (28 Dec) on Facebook, she further released two pictures showing her injuries after being beaten by her husband.
She wrote:
"(Uncle Mao) is abusive and something that has never been broken before because he thinks of honor, thinks of his children and is ashamed. There are many other things that can not be said and should not be said. As a woman, I always remember that when tears flow: (I need to) try to be strong, try to be a great person, hide the pain... but for years until now, I can not stand it anymore! I devoted myself to Uncle Mao's family, but what I got back in turn was the pain again and again, this time I asked to end peacefully, but Uncle Mao still abused me and his mother still accuses me, slanders me, and blames me. ..."
After Ms. Try Dana posted this message, Mrs. Nhim Morakot, Undersecretary of State for the Ministry of Women's Affairs condemned the act saying that people who use violence against women, even husbands, must be responsible before the law.
