Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On 25 December 2021, a woman took her own life in desperation, after deciding that she could never resolve her debt of US$3,000, which resulted from being addicted to gambling - betting on numbers. Even though the woman lost all her money, she continued to believe that gambling would save her, and she borrowed money to keep gambling, but instead she became more and more in debt.
The victim,39 year old Phlong Dy, was a saleswoman who originates from Khnong village, Kampong Cham province, but she was living in Phnom Penh with her husband.
According to the husband, Soeung Panh, the day before his wife committed suicide, she confessed that she owed $ 3,000 to the boss of the numbers gambling den, and that she had lost all her money. She was sad and said that she wanted to hang herself. However, the husband comforted his wife and pleaded her not to think in the short term, saying that they would find a solution later together.

But unfortunately, the next day when he returned from work, the husband found their room was locked from the inside. He knocked on the door repeatedly, but his wife did not come to open it. In a state of shock, he cried out for help, and reported to the authorities for further action.
Phnom Penh police and court doctors visited the site, where they broke into the room and confirmed that the victim had put an end to to her life. The family have arranged for funerary rites to be performed. RIP.
