Bokor National park development in Kampot
Bokor National park development in Kampot
So it has been close to 2 years since I could go up for a look and I was curious how much work has been done. Sokor bought a 99 year lease (in a National Park no less) to develop a mini city up on the plateau and has cleared large swathes of land. I took quite a few pics so bear with me.

First up the restored hotel - it seems closed and all shuttered up but tourists were allowed by security to go the the garden area at the back.
Slowly it is devolving back to the pre-restoration state and gives it that 'ghostly' character again.

You cant go past the restored hotel towards the Kings house atm - they have blocked the road.
The development that had begun 2 years ago has stopped completely - between the church and the Chinese temple.
Now the row of shophouses behind the casino - only 2 seemed to be occupied - the rest all had chains on the doors. Previously busy with Chinese shops and restaurants now abandoned. Also the 'aircraft hangar' is completely deserted - where the Khmer workers used to live.

Two thirds of the way along the back loop road, past the Japanese rice fields, is a huge cleared area where they are going gangbusters on building what appears to be a Borey
Re: Bokor National park development in Kampot
I forgot to mention that at the base of the Park road about 500m from the railway crossing are 2 huge Borey developments underway

Re: Bokor National park development in Kampot
I was up there last year and noticed all those abandoned buildings by the empty hangar. There are huge (100hectare?) swathes of the plateau that have been cleared for new boreys if you drive around the new roads. Who the hell is going to ever live there I don't know.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

500m on, and again on the left, they are continuing to build some more apartments and villas.
Re: Bokor National park development in Kampot
Another 500m on I cut down a dirt track to find a perfect tar road leading back to the last development. Lots of earth moving machinery at work shaping the terrain. It is at least 400m back up to the loop road.

There is a coffee shop at the home display centre which makes $1 espressos and $3.50 club sandwiches. Quite a bit of furniture on display as well. Average price for a 2 storey villa was $160k !
The road is also closed just past the Waterfall park.
Over by the hydroponics and poultry farms there are now 3 more concrete factories.

Lastly down the back roads to the fishing lake to check the big new French Versaille style hotel and casino. All shuttered up with the gates locked and no sign of anybody. Gotta be a huge white elephant.
