A lot of dramas. My head spins trying to follow.
Even the stories ECO sources from have a lot of spices. Are they the same?
- William Kong, President of the Khmer Young Party (page 1, post #8)
- William Guang, leader of the Khmer Rise political party (page 1, post #10)
- Khmer Rise Party president Sok Sovann Vathana Sabung, better known as William Guang (page 2, post #5)
- Mr. Sok Sovann Vathana Sabung called William Guang, President of the Khmer Rouge Party (page 2, post #7)

He's probably from the Khmer Rouge Party. He looks like that sort.

UPDATE: The defense offered by the accused seems to be that he was behind on his rent. More details:

The Case of Prosecution for Aggravated Theft, Conspiracy to Serve with Aggravated Theft, Unauthorized Possession of Weapons, and Forgery of Public Documents
December 25, 2021
Image
Cambodia News, (Phnom Penh): The case of a group of armed robbers who broke into the house of an online lotion seller, An Sieu Mey, and stole some diamond jewellery on December 19, 2021, has been continuing the legal process by the court, and the questioning of the suspects continued on 25 December.
Image
Mr. Plang Sophal, Spokesman for the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, confirmed that the above case was being pursued by the prosecutor on charges of aggravated theft, conspiracy to commit aggravated theft, illegal possession of arms and ammunition, and forgery of public documents under Articles 29, 353, 357, 490 and 629 of the Penal Code.

The four suspects are:
1. Sok Sovann Vathanasabong, alias William Kong, male, 44 years old, occupation: President of the Khmer Rise Party.
2. Name: Oramon, male, 33 years old, occupation: driver.
3. Sovann Ranut, male, 26 years old.
4. Name: Sovann Srey Suryaporn, Female, 24 years old, Occupation: Salesman.

In answer to police questioning, Sok Sovann Vathanasabong, alias Sok Sovann Vathanasapong, alias William Kong, the mastermind and planner, confirmed that the robbery at the house of An Sieu Mey, was planned just one day in advance. He was the direct leader of the gang, who decided to commit the robbery because currently he lacks money to support his livelihood and the party.
In fact, the car he drives is not yet paid off, and the house he lives in is rented for $ 2,500 per month, but he owes two months' rent, and he also has to pay for 16 party offices. Secondly, it is his opinion that the rich people on Facebook who show off their wealth to poor people, deserve a warning about their bad character.
Image
The mastermind continued that in the past, they had attempted another robbery with fake uniforms on November 25, 2021, where they planned to rob the owner of Borey Mondani in Kong Pisey District, Kampong Speu Province, but did not succeed because on the day of the robbery, the victim was not in the car they robbed.
Then, on December 19, 2021, using the same method as the first time, with fake police uniforms, and forging an official order to seize property at the house of Lean Lan, named An Sieu Mey. However, Phnom Penh Military Police arrested 12 people, immediately seized 5 firearms and many sets of diamonds, and they later returned and found 1 firearm hidden in a drain, so a total of 6 weapons were confiscated.
Image
Following professional questioning, the police found that of the 12 people arrested in the police raid, four of them were actively involved in the robbery, and they are building a case to send the four to court to be punished according to the law.

Can't afford the $2500 a month rent instead of moving to something a little less grand he perfered to steal.
Oh well, he will be downsizing his living quarters now.

Get the OCD gendarmerie to do it next time “Wait, it’s not level and that bullet colour is tarnished so it’s go to go there in order. See!”

At the start didn’t the cops say they doubted the 9 million in value or was that another robbery?

Lots of the “wealth” here is fake. Rented/loaned/borrowed/no tax cars, Fake handbags rented houses. These lotion sellers (Dana Tre is the worst) perpetuate the image and make people jealous or want that life, even if they have to fake it or buy into their pyramid bullshit (yeah thanks for the 60 tubs of whitening cream we still have two years later!).

All joking aside, that a pretty impressive cache of weapons for someone engaged in political activity on a low level. In the UK simple possession of that lot will get you 5+ years just for starters. Use them in an armed robbery and you can double it. Over here I suspect their biggest crime will be the desire to punish rich flash Oknas for flaunting their wealth.

What are this lot going to get sentenced to?

More details of this strange robbery from the PPP, 26 December 2021 | 21:45 ICT :

When questioned about the motives for his crimes, William Guang said he did not like people who showed off by bragging about or publicly displaying ostentatious wealth – acts which he felt Sieu Mey engaged in frequently during her sales pitches on social media livestreams.

Video of the incident made public by the Military Police show the band of robbers posing as authorities – with one of them even wearing a police uniform – and using a fake court order to convince Sieu Mey to open the door to her home.

William Guang told the Military Police that the police uniform was purchased at the notorious Teuk Thla market in Sen Sok district and that the other outfits were just what he and his friends typically wore when hiking in the forest.

He continued that he used a car without any number plate because he knew that traffic police are usually careless on Sundays and more apt to ignore violations, which enabled them to travel to the scene of the crime and escape easily – or so he thought at first, until he realised within a matter of hours that he and his friends had quickly become targets for surveillance by the authorities.

William Guang and his accomplices were arrested a day after the robbery at a home in Borey Penhuoth in Chak Angre Krom commune located just off of HE Boulevard, and in the days since then the number of suspects arrested has risen to at least 15.

Asked what he was possibly thinking when he hatched this scheme even as he was a politician and party president who enjoyed a comfortable life with a nice home, he said he had spent his savings on political activities and that now he had no income because his business had gone bankrupt, forcing his employees to “go hungry”.
