Tories get clobbered in by-election

I think the devil is in the detail of the word 'we' here....nerdlinger wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 7:48 pmWe already knew that in 2019 and still gave him an 80 seat majority.
Just think back and and try to remember who were the people eligible to vote.
You really were amongst them?

I’m very obviously not a Tory voter.Kammekor wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 8:28 pmI think the devil is in the detail of the word 'we' here....nerdlinger wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 7:48 pmWe already knew that in 2019 and still gave him an 80 seat majority.

Re: Tories get clobbered in by-election
People often vote differently in a by-election where they know there’s no danger of a change in ruling party. George Galloway for example once got in as an independent (a rare occurrence) at a by-election. I’ll wager a pint that Shropshire will be back to blue the next general election.hanno wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 4:13 pmIn a constituency never lost by the Tories before?nerdlinger wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 4:06 pm Most by-elections aren’t triggered by scandals like this one, so the result may be more of an outlier than a reflection of the overall sentiment of the country.

We knew, but I don't think the man in the street did. He can't help himself.nerdlinger wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 7:48 pmWe already knew that in 2019 and still gave him an 80 seat majority.
He's not reading the room very well.
He has few friends in the party and has now started throwing his staff under the bus.
He's lucky parliament is closed.

Members of the Labour Party would clearly tell you that they never placed a vote in favour of the PM Boris Johnson. But nevertheless we see him in that position, maybe for now, and no doubt there will be change due to the Tory bunch up to their usual carnage of in house backstabbing, they don't seem to be in need of opposed political parties, they can make plenty in house damage amongst themselves.
It's usually always the case too that the right person for the job will be elected in the party, too tackle the situation that may be of interest to the country and the public. Whatever the issues may be at the time, such has reason to a ongoing problem or a predefined outcome, such being what matters most to the welfare of the times, such has employment, housing, new and ongoing development, health and defence, security. There's been some good and bad leadership in past years, depending on your own veiws and opinions. Such likes of Churchill, Wilson and Heath. Thatcher. The first and last PM's had the strength, experience and foresight to see their political policies and procedures upheld for the good of those times. There seems to be a unfortunate lack of those leadership skills today, but someone with such high leadership skills are required today to tackle the situation of the pandemic and the times of today.

Always "hope" but never "expect".

Hypocritical tosser. Let's see how much longer he gets away with it. Wouldn't be surprised if his own party axes him within a month.
Re: Tories get clobbered in by-election
Thing is, if you asked people who voted Tory at the last election if they would have done so knowing that Bjo would be PM, you might get a different answer to those who blindly vote "blue". At least in Labour's case you knew it would be Commie Corbyn, and Labour voters voted accordingly - probably by voting Tory.
It made me question the whole UK party electoral system versus the USA where it is quite clear who the President will be, as well as the party they'll bring into power.
The more I think about it, the more important it is to know who the leader is. I mean if you were a huge Apple fan and had a chance to work there under Steve Jobs & be inspired by creative genius (and bad personal hygiene), versus working under Tim Cook and a "white bread" corporate yes-man environment, would you still do it?
I won't lie, I've voted Tory previously - based on the premise of "Anyone but communists" - Tony B Liar got my vote before, simply because it was obvious he wasn't a communist & was a good alternative to the Tory sleaze back then. What Major did to clean that all out though is very underestimated; something Bjo & this lot of useless plebs can't hold a candle to.
I'm struggling with the whole UK politics scene as it stands - I can't think of a single politician I'd vote for to begin with; there isn't an inspiring leader among any side of the House; just a bunch of "white bread" political yes-men. The days of Gladstone vs Disraeli battling on ideals & policy are long gone; now we get Abbott vs Bjo with the MSM throwing an endless stream of custard pies into the mix.
