I cycled the new Kep beach today-
wanted to see if i could ride the whole way and yep, i could, it stretches from just south of the Don Bosco school. Figure its less than 2 kms so they still need add another kms or so heading north of the New tall building ( condo/hotel/resort?) Who ever is building this place as a great location, will be right on the new beach and if they do it right....
33A heading south
looking north from the new big building

Re: I cycled the new Kep beach today-
looking north towards Don Bosco
Looking South
LOoking north
I dont know why they have these inlets?
from the above shot to this one looking back the new land is apx 90 meters wide>
I guess( ?>) half the width will be grassed in with ??? new places to sit and eat and the other 45 m will be beach?
the old beach is 350m x 15-20 meters wide ONLY
Cambodians < ( from what i see) do not enjoy the beach and most never go into the sea. they go to the beach to sit and eat under an umbrella so who is this beach for??
current beach is empty during the week, and busy only on weekends and holidays
The new land ends about half way south of the area they cook the seafood.
I figure they need still do another kms north of Don Bosco's
no idea why they reclaimed 90 meters of land from the sea ( in some spots is 50-60 meters wide)
Its a huge project for sure and look forward to watching how it develops over the coming months, years

Re: I cycled the new Kep beach today-
doubt the chinese will flock here in masses> it will still be a side trip for them.
Theres nothing for them to do, the dining options are pretty poor, no activities, (unless you count that longtail pulling the rubber thing) , zero nightlife>, zero shopping, zero entertainment,( no bars or casinos), only tours are to Bokor
even for barangs its not the best destination for tourists.
FYI: all the above makes it ideal for living here Although i'd love to see a supermarket ,, ahh someday...
Maybe in 10-15 year's once some big resorts/hotels are built on the new land

Re: I cycled the new Kep beach today-
^^ Having said that, Richard, the Chinese ought to have a shopping mall, multi-story hotel resorts, and casinos completed before New Year.
And, that new beach photo in your OP won't need sand. That's the parking lot.

Thanks for the informative report, Richard.
Re: I cycled the new Kep beach today-
I hope you're right, on TOF there is a "when will you go back 'home'" thread, secondary education for junior was my main point - but actually the demise of Kep basically means a quiet seaside retreat is no longer an option, which was also on my "if Kep falls, I'm done" decision tree.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 2:45 pm doubt the chinese will flock here in masses> it will still be a side trip for them.

Re: I cycled the new Kep beach today-
On the photos, is that the fishing boats waiting for high tide so they can pull in and unload their catch at the small pier? Or is it what I expect and the fish market is soon to be under the plans of new development, or even moved from the area.
By the way Richard, excellent report of changing Cambodia.

Always "hope" but never "expect".
