Cambodia News (Phnom Penh) On the morning of 10 December 2021, nearly 100 houses were destroyed by fire in two different places in Phnom Penh.
The first fire occurred at 6:30 am at the railway in front of the Ministry of National Defense, Sangkat Boeung Kak 1, Khan Toul Kork. Flames were seen engulfing the home of a 58-year-old woman, Sanden, which then began spread to other houses rapidly. The rapid spread of the flames shocked residents there and they made immediate report to the authorities for intervention.

Daun Penh district authorities confirmed that the fire occurred at an unregulated construction on the railway where the fire started due to an electric short circuit. A total of 80 houses were damaged by the fire but no injuries or accidents were caused. The fire rescue operation included the use of 25 vehicles from the Phnom Penh Fire and Rescue Office using 300 cubic meters of water.

Another fire occurred a short while later, at 8:15am, in another unregulated construction on National Road 5, Group 05, Village 3, Sangkat Chrang Chamres I, Khan Russey Keo, which was completely destroyed by fire, causing a surprise to residents.
The fire broke out in the house of Ly Phoeung a 70-year-old housewife, due to another electric short circuit. The fire continued to spread to houses next door, and seventeen houses were almost completely destroyed.
The fire did not cause any injuries and deaths, but it rendered many families homeless and they lost all their possessions.

We saw the fire as I was taking the kids to school yesterday. Well, We saw the smoke and from where we were it looked to be coming from the train station area so it was closer than we thought. It looked bad simply by the amount of smoke we could see. This would have been at 7am. Normally, I would ride past this place every day but we swapped campuses for the kids on Monday as my school have moved me to the TK campus so we didn’t get to see it.

I wonder if they noted the amount of water used so they can bill the families?
