you can pick that rain dance up again, Doc, although i doubt it will do the trick fast enough
the first storm front is slipping away to the south.
Maybe a few showers before we can hope for the 2nd late afternoon front coming thru.

I'm fairly sure the last time England won the toss at the Gabba and invited Australia to bat was in 2002. Nasser Hussain was the captain. Australia finished the first day on 364-2.

Unless it's a proper green top, if you win the toss you bat, especially at the Gabba. However, implicit in those tactics are the ability to survive until lunch with no more than 2 down and press on from there.

1/ The Ashes is a Test cricket series played between England and Australia. The term originated in a satirical obituary published in a British newspaper, The Sporting Times, immediately after Australia's 1882 victory at The Oval, its first Test win on English soil.
The obituary stated that English cricket had died, and "the body will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia".

The mythical ashes immediately became associated with the 1882–83 series played in Australia, before which the English captain Ivo Bligh had vowed to "regain those ashes". The English media therefore dubbed the tour the quest to regain the Ashes.

so yeah PissOn, that part is a bit dumb.
So is standing out in the sun for 5 x 5 days over a mid-summer in Australia - or anywhere. full stop.

2/ But it is also the embodiment, the exemplar, the pinnacle, of the finest civilisation the world has ever know.

To England :beer3: - and all cricketers wearing white.
