I didn't notice that element, its a bit odd including it, maybe it is for when they add a mandatory service change.

Anyhoo, we tipped $20. Not bad for Brits eh?

There seems to be a "rabbit off" with the wine price, a Hob Nob Cabernet Sauvignon is a Pays d’Oc non vintage table wine at about $8 a bottle. I assume (hope) the wine he had was not a Hob Nob, If it was he needs to query that bill. Where I eat I get Vintage Bordeaux Superiors for around $20, Vintage St Emillions from around $27 and Vintage Medocs from around $35

Check the wine list below to see what you should be getting for around $108

We had 4 bottles. $30 each.

I was more pissed off with the bloke who ordered that f**kin Perrier for $7 a bottle.

That makes more sense :D but still very expensive for a non vintage wine. If you go again get a copy of the wine list and post, I would be interested to see. As a matter of interest if you want to check the quality and vintage of a wine you are unsure of the Vivino App is quite good. https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... l=en&gl=US

Times are obviously tough with covid and lack of tourists but it does make me wonder whether these places that offer these set menus make any money on the food itself. Rather, they make it up on the marked up drinks and wine.. Order Kulen water only and they make a loss? Anyway, I guess it keeps the restaurant open and staff employed.

Of course, thats how it works: get the customer in with cheap food, and hoop he drinks a lot. Why you think Harrys keeps his 5-dollar-food ?? They have to make somehow the money, if you go to a buffet anyplace in the world, its the same, i was since newyear twice at the Happy-family buffet, used to be on Koh Pich, now on RN 5 just over the bridge, you can eat yourself full for 10.90 included softdrinks, pretty sure they loose money on me, every time, if drink only softdrinks. But i support the lokal economy: drink booze !!!

Thanks for the Vivino link. As for the HobNob Cad Sav, it was very nice, no complaints at all. It was the cheapest red on the wine list, and there is no need to spend any more unless you really know what you are doing (we don't).

Here is the menu. The food is of a high standard and very well presented. The portions are not big, but that's perfect for a free flow deal. You get baskets of excellent fresh bread and chilled butter. Chicken Cordon Bleu is excellent, so to the Pork alla Milanese with spaghetti in a tomato sauce (sorry @truffledog)

If you go, go in a group, that way gluttony can be masked somewhat, if you are on you own, or with a 45kg Khmer lady, there will be no concealment.

We did wonder what the staff made of all these people ordering so much food and still being able to walk out unaided...

Thanks for that, I would be interested to to know what other wines they sell and their prices. The fact that the Hob Nob was the cheapest on the list at $30 is a bit worrying - suggesting that any vintage wine will be way overpriced. A vintage Bordeaux Superior at the restaurant I frequent starts at $19 a bottle which is very good value and I would be happy to pay up to $30 at any other place.
As you say the Hob Nob is a very nice wine and I would be happy to pay $15 or may be $17 a for a bottle at a restaurant but not $30. I realise you hadn't much choice, four bottles of acceptable wine at less than acceptable price. :D
