Elderly Thai Woman Arrested Trafficking 2Kgs of Cocaine from Africa to Phnom Penh
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): At 1:30 am of November 15, 2021, SINEE SAISUWAN, a 62-year-old Thai woman was detained for smuggling 1.99kg of Cocaine from Mali* through Phnom Penh International Airport. The drug was hidden in the lining of her suitcase.
The suspect and the evidence are being held for further investigation before trial.
* Although the article says that the drugs were sent from Mali, the flight label on the suitcase is marked that it was sent from Addis Abba in Ethiopia (ADD), then though Seoul(ICN) to Phomn Penh (PHN).
The final destination is not known, but Cambodia is often used as a hub for sending on drugs to other countries due to the relative laxism of the Cambodian customs officers. More details to come.

In Europe such an old mule and first time offender would get maximum 1 jaar jail sentence.

Agree, criminal sentencing in the UK is a complete joke too, neither a punishment or deterrant to those actually caughtStrawberryshake wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 11:43 pm In Europe such an old mule and first time offender would get maximum 1 jaar jail sentence.

So she checked out the bag as if it was going straight for next flight they would know what the destination was?
How does a old thai lady like this justify to enter Cambodia? And if she is just a old drug mule her story from customs would probably not add up and with so few travelers they should have plenty of time just for her.
Shouldnt thls be the worst time ever to do this? What chanse do you have to slip through when workload is so low for customs?

Luckily the traffickers were kind enough to route her away from Thailand/Indonesia/Malaysia really - she'd have been facing the death penalty otherwise. Poverty and ignorance are a dangerous mix. She must have ring more than a few customs alarm bells when she checked in and transited.

In Singapore, the counsel she would have is her chaplain, who would be preparing her for her hanging on a Friday or Thursday just after dawn. Additional fact: in Singapore, first they hang you. Then they slit your wrists to make sure the job is done.

That might not be long enough, but she will probably die in jail here, and I don't like that. I'd be a terrible judge; off sick on sentencing day. Was going to comment on her quarantine reduction but this is sad (to me).Strawberryshake wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 11:43 pm In Europe such an old mule and first time offender would get maximum 1 jaar jail sentence.
In Germany, or one or 2 of the Scandinavian countries, it is not a criminal offense to escape from jail. It is considered a natural human response to want to be free. Mind you, murders are "jailed" on islands, no locks and keys, just ocean, where they are forced to cook for themselves. Hard time.

Is jaar a unique word somewhere in Europe, like gaol and the Scottish and Irish vocabs? I'm serious, not being rude, because the 'j' and the 'y' aren't exactly next to each other, and the 'e' and 'a' are even more distanced.Strawberryshake wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 11:43 pm In Europe such an old mule and first time offender would get maximum 1 jaar jail sentence.
