Pharmacist Dies of Freak Electrocution (UPDATE: Murder Investigation)
Cambodia News(Phnom Penh): On the 14th November 2021, at 9:30 am a pharmacist was found tragically dead on the stairs of his house along National Road 2, at the point of sale of pharmacy "B" Ponlok, House No. 3 in Prek Tanou Village, Chak Angre Leu Commune, Meanchey District, Phnom Penh. The victim, Kao Mao, male, 85 years old, selling medicine and general medical examination, was found dead with scars all over his body due to an electric shock.
Sources from the scene said that before the incident, they saw a group of people repairing a house at the back of the victim's house. The victim and his wife had locked the door from the inside, and that morning, the victim was not seen opening the pharmacy door to sell medicine as usual.
Moments later, the neighbors next door heard a woman screaming for help. They helped cut open the door lock and rushed to rescue the couple inside, where they found the victim dead on the metal stairs, and the remains of the resin ceiling above which had collapsed around the burnt body of the deceased.
After the local authorities contacted Kosal Vichey of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police to inspect the body, it was confirmed that the victim indeed died from an electric shock. The body of the victim was handed over to the family for funerary rites. RIP.

Re: Pharmacist Dies of Freak Electrocution
Seriously... no criminal investigation? Electricity is not some mysterious out of this world force. It's a well understood subject.
We make jokes about cambodian electricians, but when will the jokes cause some action to be taken?
Terrible. Idiocy kills innocent people.
This is not a freak accident. It's negligence, and a failure of city codes and it will continue to happen if we brush it off as one off incidents.

UPDATE
"Freak Electrocution" Investigated as Homicide
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On November 115, 2021, at 2:00 pm at house no.3 on National Road 2, Sangkat Chak Angre Leu, Khan Mean Chey, the wife of the victim, a 77-year-old woman named Tieng Sim, was arrested and accused of murdering her husband, the 85-year-old pharmacist, Pheuv Mao.
The accusation was based on the discovery of an empty alcohol bottle, 2 lighters, a burnt broom, and part of the burnt mattress which had been swept up and packed in a black trash bag with a few locks and keys. According to the police, at 2:00 am on November 14, the suspect took half a bottle of alcohol and poured it onto the bed and the sleeping victim. Then she set him on fire.
The victim died from severe burns which were first suspected to be caused by electrocution, however, after further investigation, the case was updated to homicide. The motive behind the murder was alleged to be daily quarrels between the elderly couple, caused by old age and lack of sleep. The suspect has been put in custody under investigation before trial.

I wonder what pushed her over. 77 years old so she's probably been married to him for 60+ years and after all this time pretty much at the end she decided enough is enough

Enough of what is enough? Oh, I get it, we're just assuming as a man he must have been the guilty party.KunKhmerSR wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 6:36 pm I wonder what pushed her over. 77 years old so she's probably been married to him for 60+ years and after all this time pretty much at the end she decided enough is enough
Shame we won't be hearing his side of the story.

So, she sets fire to him while he sleeps. He wakes up and then stumbles around, while still on fire, and collapses on a staircase where the intensity of his body burning melts a resin ceiling above him.
With a burnt body on the stairs and a burnt out bed somewhere other than the stairs, how did they come up with the notion of electrocution?
