Cambodia News (Steung Treng Province): At 3:20 am on November 8, 2021, in Bachong village, Sangkat Preah Bat, 7 convicted criminals broke a hole in the wall of the jail, and all of them escaped successfully, despite the 3 gunshots fired by the prison guards in an attempt to stop the prison breakout.

After the investigation at the crime scene, the authorities found an electric driller machine, iron bar, wooden stick, pillow, and blanket, which were used to muff the drilling noise. Six of the criminals were convicted for drugs, including one life sentence, and one man was convicted of robbery with violence.

The authorities are searching for the missing convicts.

The escaped convicts are believed to have headed for the nearby border with Laos in order to evade capture.

Seven prison escapees to face another charge
Seven prison escapees in Stung Treng province will face a fresh punishment when they are arrested as the authorities believe that they have fled to neighboring Laos.

Provincial Spokesman Men Kung told Khmer Times today when captured, the seven men will face additional charges according to the law.

The police, including prison officers, have cooperated with relevant border authorities to search for the prisoners who are believed to sneak across the Lao border.

UPDATE: Three Convicts Captured
Cambodia News (Steung Treng Province): On November 10, 2021, the Cambodian authorities found and rearrested thee of the seven convicted criminals who broke out of jail in Stung Treng.
The first one arrested was Van Phu, sentenced to 20 years in prison for drug trafficking, the second one was Ket Ngen, sentenced to 4 years in prison for a drugs offense, and the identity of the third one has not been disclosed yet.

20 years is a serious prison sentence, actually so is the 4 year sentence in a Cambodian prison. The country is dense and wild towards the Laos border if you could manage to stay away from the roads, but getting to Lao means crossing the Mekong.

There is a stretch of a few hundred km of land border to the east of the Mekong, much of it through Virachey National Park.

It's just sweat, take a walk out in the jungle or do manual labor here and you'll also look like you pissed yourself.

Not to mention a couple of the cops look like they pissed themselves, big old piss convention going on near the border huh

Minister of Interior Sar Kheng ordered a probe into a November 8 prison break in the northeastern province of Stung Treng, after five out of seven escaped inmates were recaptured over the next four days.

In a November 12 statement, Sar Kheng noted that all seven were convicted of drug-related offences and that five male inmates – two Laotians and three Cambodians – were back in custody.

He noted that the other two – both Laotians – were still at large, without explicitly identifying their gender*.

The minister said the arrests of the five escapees were thanks to tips from the public, and praised the police for their efforts in the operation.
