Deadly DIY Mouse Trap on Cucumber Farm Kills Deaf Fisherman
Cambodia News (Kandal Province): On November 2, 2021, at 23:50 pm in Chong Koh Thom village in Kandal, a 26-year-old deaf man, Keam Sothea, died from electrocution caused by a DIY electric mice stunner at a cucumber farm that belonged to a 47-year-old man, Nai Kaem.
The DIY device was made out of a JP battery, a power inverter device, and 250m of metal wire which were set up along bamboo poles around the cucumber farm to trap the mice. According to a 15-year-old man, who was with the victim during the incident, he was asked to go along with the victim to help gather some fish from his fishing, and as they passed by the cucumber farm, all of a sudden, the victim accidentally touched the wire while walking, got electrocuted, and fell down unconscious.
The friend tried to help the victim by finding the battery to turn it off, but could not find it. So then he went home to call for help. However, when he returned with the help, the victim was already dead. The victim's body was taken home and his death was reported to the authorities the next morning.
According to the police autopsy, burn marks were spotted on the victim's fingers which were burnt to his bones, on his right foot in between his toes which were also burnt through to the bones. Therefore, the authorities determined that he died from electrocution. The body of the victim was given to the family for the funeral, and the police are now searching for the owner of the farm who set up a deadly mice trap.
