RE: Visa Situation Now

Post by Lex Lupus »

Sorry for posting this here, but I don't see anything recent from looking over the board. I got out of the U.S. military in June of this year and have been staying on as a consultant hoping for a door opening in Indochina. I am currently in Saudi Arabia and would like to make a long-term move to Cambodia when it reopens its borders in next month. Attempting to apply for an electronic E visa from the Cambodian website will not allow you the option to apply for anything other than the eT visa if you are not from China (and, oddly enough, Taiwan). Are there any other options for getting an E-Business visa to Cambodia these days? Can you change an eT visa into a long-term stay visa in-country? Are there any other venues by which to apply from outside the country for long-term stay visas? Attempts to contact the Cambodian embassy in Egypt have resulted in them telling me to apply online since I am not in Egypt.

Thanks to anyone who can give some guidance and direction in regard to this matter.

You have to apply through a Cambodian embassy abroad and supply the required documents.
Or come on a T-visa, get one extension, hope the rules will be more relaxed in two months time and do a visa run then.
Currently visa runs are not really an option due to lack of flights and quarantine.

• Cambodia's land and sea borders remain closed to entry of foreigners without prior authorisation, but you can still fly into PP or Sihanoukville.
• Visa on Arrival remains suspended
• If not in possession of multi-entry Visa Extension of Stay (EOS), then you need to apply for a Visa in Advance from a Cambodian Embassy or consulate (criteria varies from Embassy to Embassy, so check with them directly)
• Tourists can now apply for the T-type (Tourist) Visa in advance from a Cambodian Embassy/Consulate, or they can also apply for the e-Visa (electronic online Tourist Visa) at www.evisa.gov.kh
• Only Taiwanese passport holders are eligible to apply for the E-type (Ordinary) Visa online at https://www.evisa.gov.kh/
• T-type (Tourist) Visas and e-Visas (electronic online Tourist Visa) can only be extended one time for an additional 30 days, allowing a total period of stay up to 2 months. Visa runs are still not currently possible due to VOA's remaining suspended and land borders remaining closed
• Visa Exempt Entry for ASEAN passport holders has been reintroduced.

1. PRE-FLIGHT PCR TEST:
All Passengers must have a printed medical certificate indicating a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) PCR test conducted no more than 72 hours before arrival into Cambodia. Must be original (not copy), must have wet ink signature & stamp.

For full details of requirements check this thread:
post505167.html?hilit=pre%20flight%20PCR%20test#p505167

*NOTE: The timing in that thread is outdated, the new requirement is that the pre-flight PCR test must be conducted within 72hrs of arrival, as per the MoH’s Standard Operating Procedures. We are hoping that it is an error, and are trying to obtain clarification, however until then we advise people to adhere to this timeline.

2. COVID-19 INSURANCE:
All Foreigners must have a colour printed Forte COVID-19 Insurance policy. Available at https://www.forteinsurance.com/covid-19-insurance/

- This does not apply to nationals of Cambodia travelling on a Cambodian passport, or foreign passport with K-type (Special) Visa.
- This does not apply to passengers with an A (Diplomatic) or B (Official) -type Visa issued by Cambodia.

3. COVID-19 VACCINATION CARD/CERTIFICATE:
All fully vaccinated travellers should present their vaccination card/certificate in order to be eligible for the reduced quarantine periods.
- Confirmation of complete vaccination status
- Final dose required to have been administered at least 14 days prior to arrival
- Must state:
• Travellers Name

5. PRE-BOOKED ASQ HOTEL or DEPOSIT PAYABLE UPON ARRIVAL:
All Foreigners must have either a pre-booked ASQ Hotel or pay a deposit at a designated bank on arrival to cover quarantine related expenses. (Note: Many airlines require travellers to have this in cash).

Deposit Amounts (if no pre booked ASQ hotel):
• No Deposit – e-Visa holders and travellers with a VAPG (Guarantee) Certificate must have confirmation of a pre-booked ASQ Hotel
• $600 - Vaccinated short term Foreigner business travellers, investors, technical experts with a VAPI (Invitation) Certificate.
• $1000 - Vaccinated General Foreigners.
• $2000 - Unvaccinated Foreigners.

- Deposit does not apply to nationals of Cambodia travelling on a Cambodian passport, or foreign passport with K-type (Special) Visa.
- Deposit does not apply to passengers with an A-type (Diplomatic) or B-type (Official) Visa.
- Nationals of Cambodia travelling on a Cambodian passport, or foreign passport with K-type (Special) Visa can quarantine for free at a Government quarantine facility, or opt for hotel quarantine at their own expense.
- General foreigners quarantine expenses will be deducted from the deposit, or paid directly to the hotel if pre-booked.
- A (Diplomatic) or B (Official) -type Visa holders can quarantine at an approved residence as arranged by the Embassy or IO, or pre-book their quarantine at one of the ASQ Hotels.

Is it true that if coming from Thailand, you don't have to quarantine in Cambodia?

No, not yet. The PM said that in a conversation on Friday night. Nothing from that conversation has been made official yet, the headline of the VOD article is misleading.

It is unlikely they will introduce quarantine free arrival for travellers from Thailand only, it makes no sense, a country where COVID rates are ridiculously high and vaxx rates are low, to enter quarantine free but make everyone else arriving from other countries still quarantine. (But hey, stranger decisions have been made, TIC)

We are likely to see further changes soon. But please don't put any faith into articles like the one that "announced" this news, wait until there is an official announcement and directive.

Ok, it appears that it is no longer a mandatory requirement to pre-book an ASQ Hotel in order to apply for the e-Visa, as you can see from the screenshot, they have removed the asterix which indicates mandatory, from the Health Insurance & Hotel Booking.

It might make sense to prebook.. That way no need to wait for any refund. I noticed the pricing for 7 days in the Olympia and Toyoko Inn are below 1k.

Seems easier to pay in advance and not deal w/ waiting for refund--

thanks as always @PSD-Kiwi for all the new info

Thanks for the input and info; much appreciated. This certainly helps clarify the situation now.
Are chatter about the possibility of things easing up soon?
