Cambodia News (Banteay Mean Chey Province): On October 20, 2021, two Chinese nationals were detained and sent to trial, accused of kidnapping, blackmailing, and human trafficking by the Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Office of the Banteay Mean Chey provincial police.

According to the Poipet police, at 5:50 pm on October 18, 2021, they were informed by an anonymous individual that there were two men being held hostage in room 114, in Kilometer 4 village, Sangkat Phsar Kandal, Poipet city, Banteay Mean Chey province.
The authorities worked with the building owner and successfully rescued a 33-year-old man, Doeurn Deat, and 33-year-old Cheum Kdeub, who were being held captive by a 36-year-old Chinese man, Sin Saosun, the victims' supervisor. This discovery led to another detention of a 35-year-old Chinese man, Kao Chung, another supervisor at an online company in Poipet city at 9:00 am on October 19, 2021.

According to the suspect, Sin Saosun, he was looking for six Thai nationals to work for his online company. When the two victims arrived, he thought they were two of the six candidates recruited by the third-party agent for him, and sent them for training at the Xian Ho Borey, but then discovered that they were not Thai. The suspect was upset that he was tricked by the agent to pay for the wrong candidates, so he held the victims as captives to force the agent to pay back the 1,000USD per person and transportation expenses of 250USD each person, in a total of 2,500USD.

After the police interrogation, the two victims claimed that they were interviewed by a third-party agent and got recruited among six candidates in Phnom Penh on October 9. The victims were transferred to Poipet with unidentified Chinese and Bangladeshi* recruits and a local driver. They were asked to stay in the building where they were held as captives. The next morning, they were handcuffed by Sin Saosun who decided to hold them as hostages, because he was scammed by the third-party agent who recruited them. He said that the victims would be locked up for six months if the agent could not pay back the money that he paid for the workers.

According to another suspect, Kao Chung, he claimed that he had nothing to do with this imprisonment, as he has been working as the supervisor of the company's facilities only, and he said that Sin Saosun was responsable for the hostage-taking
The suspects were sent to trial and the court proceeded with the case; further news will be updated.
