Safety barrier was normal it would be un-normal if it worked :stir:

Must have been one of those really high-speed trains that are so fast, you have no time to react, rather than one of the normal trains that trundles along at not much above walking pace :)

Looking at Google maps at the site of the accident, if yr coming from the South there is zero chance you would see the train until the very last second if you tried to cross without stopping.

Lesson learnt is, roll to a STOP at a train crossing to check both ways, no matter what, even if the safety barrier is up and suggests its ok.

I cross the railway at the crossing with barriers in TK cycling to and from work, I reckon I am the only person who ever actually takes a glance each way just in case

What are the odds of this happening as often as the trains aren't running down that way. Maybe because of the infreqency it led to complacency which resulted in the accident.

Most trains are freight and they are still running.
The passenger service is just PR for the operator.

It was reported on Facebook that the piggies arrested the train driver later on

Also some absolute subnormal type gave a witness statement to the effect of "The train was speeding and did not make an attempt to miss the car"

LOL. WTF? Even going at 60km/h it would take a kilometer or more to bring a loaded goods train to a complete halt.
