I think it will take at least 4-5 years until all the hoops for entry into asian countries will get dropped. Also the airlines will need to recover their losses and potential tourists from India, China, Japan, Korea and the West might also need a few years to financially recover.

Regionally it looks like Singapore, Cambodia and Malaysia will be first to reopen thanks to their massive vaccination campaigns. That'll be good for KL, being a regional transport hub. Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Indo have a long way to go to catch up.

Tough question. Had the government given any form of assistance or relief to business owners, it may have bounced back quite quickly.

Nearly all Cambodian expats haven't been back in over two years and they will make up the numbers initially, along with partners and families which are good for hotels and restaurants. Then you have the blokes who enjoy SEA for the nightlife and they will want to come, along with the backpackers. The only group I don't see coming back as soon as they can are retired/upper middle aged.

But what businesses can they go to? Will lack of supply drive up prices meaning that Cambodia is less attractive compared to its neighbours? Businesses should have been helped through this to stay ready for the return of the tourist dollar. Really short-sighted of the government to do sweet FA.

It will be interesting to see what the decision will be Nov 1. I don't understand why we are not going back to normal considering that we have a vaccine that keeps people from getting very sick in 90% percent of cases (driving the chances that you will get it and die way down if you are vaxed).

The backpackers who formerly went to Sville will no longer bother now I think.

It is questionable to me if many low to middle income people will have disposable income to travel here for quite some time.

So many countries are undergoing fundamental economic changes that words like return to normal have become meaningless.

The change is so profound- the USA, where the automobile is a cornerstone of the economy has suspended much of it's auto manufacturing, and California has banned small gasoline engines. All the major transport manufacturers are going renewable within the next 10 years and if you look closely- it is hydrogen fuel cell technologies not batteries that will do the heavy lifting for anything bigger than a bike.
So GM remark about air travel linkage to climate change really resonates.

These things are brought into stark relief by the pandemic, and some of the goals align with the pandemic effects- working from home, less car travel, less air travel.
That's the new normal.

I can pretty much guarantee You that when "the blokes who enjoy SEA for the nightlife" return they will turn up with a few friends and more than a few $. Moreover, if there is no nightlife currently, there will be nightlife within minutes as long as it is not banned.

This is no prediction. This is a fact based upon ample experience.

You hit the nail on the head one could even quote, safely said.
Don't take off your masks in too much of an hurry if the pandemic happened to come to a end, be possibly that little apprehensive in your actions because there may be some other diseases lingering around to fill the Covids place, and with the possibilities being a very similar outcome too a persons health and wellbeing has Covid19 itself. Respiratory diseases have a similarity or common interest "just to take your breath away".
Due to the Covid19 pandemic other diseases such has Tuberculosis, also known as: TB, consumption. This is another disease not unlike covid viruses that are transmitted through airborne exposure. TB requires lab tests or imaging (x-ray), TB is treatable by a medical professional, with a better outcome for the infected person if early treatments are administrated.
Again, the focus on Covid19 may have had an effect on early detection and testing of TB. Unfortunately Cambodia had a high rate of TB amongst it's population, todays numbers are difficult to find, and I would expect that the disease is going on with little regard due to cost and professional manpower.
