thailand out to nickle and dime ya to death

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

The Tourism and Sports Ministry is poised to start collecting a 500-baht tourism fee for a "tourism transformation fund" next year, with the budget following a co-payment model.

The Centre for Economic Situation Administration last week approved the creation of the fund, which is expected to subsidise projects that transform the industry, focusing on high-value and sustainable tourism.

The additional cost won't have an impact on tourists as we want to focus on the quality market," said Mr Yuthasak.

Reminds me of Myanmar where I had to exchange 200 USD for their FEC's which were worthless on the black market and I ended up spending on domestic flights because only Airlines were not allowed to refuse them.

for me personally n extra $20 AUD isn't a problem, but all this bull shit does add up... especially paying close to $400 for PCR tests when the rapid antigen tests are now selling in Thailand for about 40 baht

Land of crocodile smiles.

Good luck to the hapless thais if they can get those 'quality' tourists (aka no cheap charlies and begpackers). Beware the story of the goose that laid golden eggs tho..

Bali also wants to discourage backpackers.
They have certainly gone all hiso in their view of themselves.

The "Post Pandemic" reality may not turn out as they expect.

that was back in the 80's when u only got 7 days>
never felt it was bad as you needed to fly to really see anything in those 7 days and the duty free market j walker black and the cartoon of 555's paid for everything else :-)

Thailand and Bali... both "discovered" by the backpackers
now their shunned for flashpackers with credit cards
