As a devout non-atheist I have no issue with assisted euthanasia for the terminally ill... if my loved ones requested that I would support it. Other than those faced with making the personal choice, commenting on religious beliefs about suicide is not helpful to the sufferer.

I'm not saying Christians couldn't support euthanasia, but I've rarely met an atheist who was against it because while atheism isn't a belief system, theists generally believe God owns their body and thus whether to kill yourself or not is up to God. For someone who doesn't believe in god, who else can lay claim to your life? You own it yourself and therefore you decide what to do with it. I'm sure there are atheists who don't feel this way, but that was why I asked the question, I've just never met them and I was curious what, outside of a religious belief, would make someone choose to suffer when they know they're going to die in a short time.StroppyChops wrote:As a devout non-atheist I have no issue with assisted euthanasia for the terminally ill... if my loved ones requested that I would support it. you really could know your bible stuff somewhat better...
the suicidals of the bible - none of them was a god-believer:
Abimelech (judges 9,54), Saul (1. Sam 31,4), Ahitophel (2. Sam 17,23), Simri (1. kings 16,18.19) und Judas (Mt 27,5).
and suicide is considered "murder" (of yourself) -- 5th commandment.
acting against gods will.

I have no concerns about my knowledge of the Bible. The difference between you and the atheist-scholars that have posted here previously is that they speak from knowledge. You Google. Let's be honest, from your inane comments you've clearly never read it, yet you're going to pretend to know more than those who have.potty wrote:you really could know your bible stuff somewhat better...

Why are you mis-quoting that scripture? It was written in Hebrew (לֹא תִּרְצָח), and translates as "You shall not murder", which has a different context and meaning. Perhaps you could frantically Google once again and come back with the difference, to prove... well, whatever it is that you're trying to prove.
Where is it written that suicide is murder of yourself? Who considers it thus? The Catholic Church?
Edit: Incidentally, still waiting for your precise reference from Job that somehow makes your point.
Oh, by the way, the fifth commandment refers to honouring your parents...
