Culture Shock in Cambodia

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Culture Shock in Cambodia

Post by Samouth »

This is the only thing i bought during my long travelling in my lovely country. When i walked into a book store, from the minute i saw this book, i was so much in love with it immediately. I know that what i am about to read might just what i see everyday and feel ok with them, but i actually don't know what exactly they are. I just finished reading 2 chapters and it turned out to be a really interesting book to read. However, i want to hear some of you guy's culture shocks experiences in the kingdom prior i finish reading the whole book. Let's see if what you found as culture shock featured in this book.

If you know a lot, know enough to make them respect you, if you are stupid, be stupid enough so they can pity you.

Sitting on the floor to eat was so strange at first but I love it now :)
Once you've read the dictionary, every other book is just a remix.

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

It is unbelievable that you never experienced culture shock in foreign countries. Was it because you read about those countries before you moved in?
