Does romantic love survive forever ?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Does romantic love survive forever ?

Post by Ahyou!whyme? »

In some shape or form.

or does it have its own death ?

I actually always thought it was the first one. That it does always survive. That it's always in there somewhere. Burning. Even if you're even not aware of it. I've always thought that a little flame survived. A glow at least. An ember, waiting to be re-ignited some long lost day.

But I've kind of realised that someone who used to love me, probably doesn't love me any more. And that's fine. I....I think that in some cases, that's for the best, and is completely understandable and logical. It's just not very....I mean, you think it lasts forever don't you. But...nothing last forever, and that includes love. Sadly.

It doesn't die. It might go dormant, but I think at the end all love is remembered.

That's going to look a weird post, lol.

I think that that's true though. Maybe that's my faith. I don't have faith in God, I have faith that the few people who loved me at some point, will briefly remember their love for me, at some future point, and it'll burn again for a few moments.

Not a very ambitious target in life, but one I can at least believe in.

Anyway...

Familiarise yourself with the reality of impermanence. Everything dies, and the only thing we can guarantee is change. That's not to say you should not get attached to loved ones. Savour those moments. Perhaps a romance will last a lifetime for the very fortunate, but it is still finite. Maybe that's what makes the human experience so intensely bittersweet.

I really don't know what to say about that Frank tbh, but I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

If ya believe this, I think you're in for a lifetime of sufferin'.

Don't most people learn about 'real life' in their school/college days?
I was genuinely surprised that one or two people on, ahem, other threads, still think that unattended flames burn on forever.. :x
