Re: Australia, US and UK form AUUKUS a new nuclear defence pact
Too right France is not happy, their top government and military officials had a whole campaign planned and ready to execute in the event of a war with China.
Their immediate capitulation, serving up crepes and Beaujolais to any Chinese occupiers, Macron hiding in London for the duration, letting the Aussies, Yanks and Brits do all the fighting, and then jumping into bed with Beijing for a trade deal at the end of the conflict.
All that planning and now the deal has fallen through.

There is no imminent existential threat.....but China is making huge soft power moves.......influence peddling in far flung regions like Africa and most recently Afghanistan.......need I highlight their abrupt infiltration into Cambodia in recent years.
They are pushing boundaries in the South China Sea.........seeing how far they can go with regards to the territorial claims of the Philippines, Vietnam, etc.
.....If this trend continues......some world power is going to pull China's card.
........What China would do next if that happened is the big question.
This new pact is just part of preparing for the worst and not getting caught with one's pants down......should China get a hair up their ass and want to get real uppity on the world stage.
It's about shoring up alliances.......showing solidarity........Don't think for one second the CCP didn't notice this development......and that was part of the plan.
Honestly, I despair at humanity sometimes. The worst thing is that it doesn't have to be like this. Every conflict, every gun fired, every missile launched, every threat to mankind is a result of conscious decisions made by people who we supposedly choose to lead us. The world could be whatever we want it to be. The reason it's full of war and conflict, is because that's how those in power make it.
One day we'll move past all of this but we're still several generations away from that.
If we make it.

Well we had one of those things already. It's called ANZUS. It's just we kicked out those soft bellied kiwis and welcomed the poms in.JUDGEDREDD wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 6:26 pm Good stuff chaps, a nice alliance for the boys.. rally-ho!

They moved past all this in the 1930s. A madman named Hitler moved troops into the demilitarized zone. In the name of peace, ‘cooler heads’ did nothing. When he moved troops into a neighboring country, the great powers created a treaty to legitimize his invasion. And then declared it ‘Peace in Our Time.’xandreu wrote:One day we'll move past all of this but we're still several generations away from that.

Bullying that is unchallenged will be met with more bullying. It’s human nature, and the nature of nations.
Peace through strength, walk softly and carry a big stick.

France is recalling its ambassadors in Australia and USA. Pissed off.
Also, there has been mention that countries local to Australia might be looking at the old white colonials and reconsidering which basket they put their eggs in

Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

Indeed, this very ironic. That the French had to modify an existing nuclear sub and retrofit diesel engines to suit Aus requirements only 5 yrs ago.Ironically the French conventionally driven Shortfin Barracuda design France offered is based on its own nuclear driven Barracuda class design. For Australia France had therefore to design a conventional power plant for a submarine that was originally designed, as all French subs are, to run on a nuclear reactor with low enriched uranium (LEU). It was quite obvious that this unusual conversion would run into difficulties and time delays.
Then again maybe the French would not have shared the nuclear tech secrets as the US and UK say they will under AUUKUS?
Also, it seems a lot can change in 5 yrs as to the CCP's ambitions and bullying in the Sth China sea and Taiwan. And the trade sanctions against Aus goods would've influenced this decision I suspect.
