I’m nowhere near being a lawyer and even if I were I don’t know Cambodian law, BUT, I don’t think the Cambodian courts would accept “I used a foreign account” as a defence. You’re essentially advising the guy to break the law by assuring him that that he won’t get caught.Kammekor wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 9:08 am I don't think that's an issue. Who would close his or her foreign bank account when coming to Cambodia? I for sure didn't. Trading to / from that account, or even from the platform of your choice, is no problem. A VPN can give you extra protection if wanted.
It’s not like going there on a two week holiday with your crypto winnings - if you live in Cambodia you’re subject to Cambodian law.

But the bottom line is, the OP is not retiring. He’s working. Making a living.
Trading cryptocurrency.
Better title is can I run a business in Cambodia with $400,000?
The answer is yes!
The hard part is getting a Cambodian visa right now.

Yup, and he’d have maybe a few years at it before the taxman started asking questions about where his seemingly endless supply of cash is coming from.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 7:03 pm But the bottom line is, the OP is not retiring. He’s working. Making a living.

Ok but I think it was mainly about getting here with a legal visa. When he gets here he can check with the 172 investment advisors for more advice.Railroad wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 5:12 pmThat ain't true, pal.canucklhead wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 10:48 am The op didnt ask for investment advice, he asked about visas. I dont work either, im 10 years older than you. i think you can do it. Cambodia is a ridiculously cheap place to live.CloudWarrior wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 10:26 pm What's the Easiest way for me to Retire in Cambodia for the Long Term?
I don't work. I have about 400K worth of investments but I live cheap and can grow my investments more than I spend.
Is ER Visa easier? I've read for those under 55, only some agents will approve and they'll need proof of savings, but I'm not sure if I would qualify as having proof of savings since it's mostly investments and possible not enough? Or do we need to just prove enough funds to last the 1 year visa extension?
Or EB Visa easier? I've read I can register a business in Cambodia and then write my own employment letter, then just re-register for a business visa (EB) every year? I was thinking I could say I'm a self employed freelance English teacher?
Some of the expats here are british citizens who had their currency value cut in half against other world currencies, just make sure to watch the USD but i think you should be fine.
My plan is stay gone barring some type of medical emergency, reason being is that medical treatment in cambodia is not good, thailand is better but of course the USA is best. eventually at age 62 or 65 ill be able to obtain SS payments, so for me thats not really that far off, under 20 years.
im actually living in europe now and unemployed, now europe is quite a step up from Cambodia, so i have to watch my expenses here, even eastern europe is more pricey.

I have thought about the same topic many times. Personally, I would never buy anything here in Cambodia for a number of reasons. Poor management of properties being one main reason and the terrible customer service another reason. I couldn't imagine spending my hard earned money and then be met with careless and ignorant attitudes. Thailand has an incomparably better attitude toward foreigners and actually manages things well. In my opinion, Thailand has risks but they are nowhere near those in Cambodia. The visa process is complicated but worth it if this place is the alternative.

Not really... I'd call it grey advice.
Take a look at the ASEAN FTA agreements. There are provisions for this specific case. My previous company was registered in a nearby asean country, and even my visa's were applied for using the foreign business address.
Speak to a lawyer who knows ASEAN. There are grey areas
