The woman's mother confirmed that her daughter has now been rescued. She was being held in quarantine in what was apparently a private compound attached to the Thmor Da Special Economic Zone.

Follow up from the above story:

November 19, 2021
Victim of forced labour rescued by police
A woman claiming to have been scammed into working for a group of Chinese in Pursat was rescued by authorities.

Police learned of the woman’s situation when she posted a message on her Facebook. The post was posted on November 17. She claimed that the she was tricked into working for a group of Chinese nationals in Pursat and asking for someone to rescue her.

Her Facebook post read: “”Do you know the police number? I was sold to work for Chinese. Now, I am in Pursat…I want to go. Please help me.”

Immediately seeing the Facebook post, the Pursat Provincial Police Commissioner, Gen. Tos Theng, ordered the Chairman of the Quick Reaction Team, Brig. Gen. Heang Sitha, to lead a joint police force with officers from all relevant departments to search for the woman.

The police finally found the woman at around 9:30 p.m. on November 17. The victim was identified as Horn Raksmey.

The victim told local police that the company that she worked for required her to be quarantined at a separate location. The location that she was quarantined at was a remote and quiet place which made her feel scared, so she posted the plea for help. She did not want to work there due to her fear.

A source from the Pursat Provincial Police told local news that the victim was brought to the Thmor Da Commune Administrative Police and given temporary accommodation to provide safety for the victim. The relatives of Raksmey were also informed of her situation and whereabouts.
Raksmey’s families came to take her back home on November 18. Raksmey posted another Facebook post assuring people that she was fine.

Was she right to be afraid ? It seems that this woman was/is not the only victim calling for help from this SEZ in Pursat, so an investigation by Cambodian authorities might be in order.
Pursat Provincial Police Commissioner General Tos Theng says that on November 08, 2021, the specialized force of the Provincial Police Commission inspected and carried out an operation and recovered a a 23-year-old Chinese victim, Xiong Liqiang, at the Thmar Da Special Economic Zone in Veal Veng District, Pursat Province.

Pursat province is huge. Sounds like the police knew exactly where to look. How convenient.

99 Thai workers rescued in Phnom Penh
Cambodian police on Thursday rescued 99 Thai workers tricked and forced into working illegally in Phnom Penh where they were held in a building by a Chinese gang.
Officials surrounded the building which was being guarded by almost 50 Chinese. Officials were able to capture almost 40 of them and rescue all the Thais from the building at 5pm.

A source said that most of the victims were tricked by other Thais recruiting people for well-paying jobs such as online gambling promotions and online marketing in Cambodia. One victim told police they learned about the jobs via Facebook.

Police bust human-trafficking gang, rescue 214 Thais forced to work in slave conditions in Cambodia
Sat, November 20, 2021
Thailand’s anti-trafficking police taskforce, in cooperation with Cambodian authorities and the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, rescued a group of Thais forced to work in slave-like conditions and arrested several others over human-trafficking charges.

Pol Lt-General Surachet Hakphan, assistant to the National Police chief, said on Friday that police had received a tip-off about some 300 Thais working inside a building in Phnom Penh.

“Officials raided the building and arrested nine Thais who had allegedly brought the victims to work there and 20 Chinese nationals who allegedly run the operation. Investigation is ongoing and additional evidence is being collected to arrest others who may be involved.

“After the raid, officials learned that the victims were being forced to work almost 20 hours daily for an illegal call centre that runs romance scams targeting people in Thailand,” he added.

“These people were forced to live in the building, not allowed to use phones or call their families and were physically abused if they were caught calling home.

“Many of the victims have signs of physical abuse on their bodies,” Surachet said.

He added that 214 of the workers have returned to Thailand, while another 99 are waiting for their documents to be processed. “The second group of people should return home within two weeks,” he said. “All Thai and Chinese nationals who have been detained will be brought to Thailand for prosecution.”

From Thailand:
Cops rescue teens lured to gambling dens
published : 28 Nov 2021 at 04:00
writer: Jakkrit Waewklaihong

That police have repatriated an 18-year-old male and 16-year-old female who were apparently duped into working for an online gambling operation in Cambodia.

The move came after Nidia Wanla asked the media to help her younger brother, Hatthachai Wanla, who went to work in Cambodia with three friends -- Krittapas Suwankun, 18, Issares Akkala, 18, and Aek, 16 -- and a teenage girl named Ms Prissana.

They say they were forced to work for an online gambling outfit and hit a monthly target of 1 million baht. If they failed to make enough money, they were told they would be sold to other groups.

Pol Col Benjapon Rodsawas, superintendent of the provincial immigration office in Trat, said authorities worked with the Royal Thai Embassy in Cambodia as well as other agencies to search for Mr Hatthachai.

After hearing the victim was safe, the Cambodian border agencies agreed to bring the victim back via the Ban Hat crossing, Pol Col Benjapon said. Police also worked with immigration officials in Cambodia to track down Ms Prissana and rescue her from an online gambling den in Koh Kong near the Ban Hat Lek border in Trat.

Upon reaching Cambodia, Ms Prissana was sent to Sihanoukville, before she was later sold to the company in Koh Kong.

Pol Maj Gen Pakorn Maneepakorn, commander of the provincial police in Trat, collected Mr Hatthachai on Friday at 4.30pm while Ms Prissana was picked up about 90 minutes later.

Speaking earlier in the day in his capacity as deputy director of the Child Woman Protection and Anti-Human Trafficking centres, assistant national police chief Pol Lt Gen Surachate Hakparn said arrest warrants have been issued for over 20 people suspected of trafficking Thais to the neighbouring country, including some Chinese nationals.

So far, Cambodian authorities also rounded up more than 70 Chinese suspects. Thai police hope to help more Thai nationals stuck in Cambodia against their will, they said.
