Foreign national claims he was kidnapped and smuggled into Cambodia, rescued after plea to PM

A Chinese man who claimed that he was kidnapped from China and illegally smuggled into Cambodia to work at an internet investment firm has been rescued after he pleaded with PM HE for help.

The man had posted a message to the PM’s Facebook page, saying:

“Hello, Prime Minister HE, I am a Chinese national who was tricked from China to work for an Internet Investment Park company in Pursat province. Here I was told to lie to others, but I was afraid to speak. I have been trying to find a secret rescue for more than two months, but there is no news yet. Now I have a serious illness and can not go to work, I have lost value for them (same Chinese). Someone who had lied to me said he would sell me to someone else, I was so scared and helpless. I hope the prince can save me.”

After receiving the message, the Quick Reaction Team of the General Commission of the National Police cooperated with the specialized force of Pursat Provincial Police to investigate and take action.

Pursat Provincial Police Commissioner General Tos Theng says that on November 08, 2021, the specialized force of the Provincial Police Commission inspected and carried out an operation and recovered a a 23-year-old Chinese victim, Xiong Liqiang, at the Thmar Da Special Economic Zone in Veal Veng District, Pursat Province.

"""Since 2020, Chinese police have arrested more than 130,000 people"""

really? Where do people get these numbers from? That equates to more than 200 people every single day arrested. This is of course absurd!

Is this world wide with this type of illegal business?

Illegal Casinos Keep Trafficking People in Cambodia
By Stoyan Todorov
Published November 9, 2021
Est. 3 minutes

Lured on a false promise of a well-paid job, three Cambodian workers have been held captive by a human trafficker at an illegal casino site in Sihanoukville in the west of the country. The report, which comes from Radio Free Asia, depicts the latest in a series of disturbing incidents taking place in the no man’s land where gambling operations have set up shop.

While the government has been trying to actively dismantle the illegal gambling industry, not least because of pressure from China, the cases of individuals held against their will to carry out various illegal operations, including gambling, continue to increase.

In the latest report, Radio Free Asia reports that two women and one man have been forced to work in the online gambling industry for at least the last two months now. The radio has been able to identify the trafficker, listing him by his name, Long, who owns the gambling operation.

Radio Free Asia was tipped about the development by one of the captive’s cousins, who alerted the media about their family’s predicament. Local police, the man said, had been unable to help and had mostly not acted in the matter. According to the anonymous tipster, the trafficked workers had been held made to work even during times when they were sick.

How Do Traffickers Lure Their Victims?

Apparently, the victims were cajoled on a promise of a hefty $1,000 pay to travel to Sihanoukville. Upon arrival, they found out that their salary would be much lower, less than $500 in fact. When they tried to quit, the trafficker barred them from leaving, and force onto them a one-year contract.

The trafficker then threatened to “sell” the three captives to other companies if they refused to sign and fulfill their contractual obligations to be, in what may seem like a staggering violation of personal rights but this is what happens to many trafficked casinos workers.

According to Radio Free Asia, at least 437 people had become victims of trafficking schemed and were forced to work in the illegal online gambling sector between March and October The media cited the Chinese-owned Century Casino in the area as one of the places where that took place. At one point, a COVID-19 outburst was registered, leading to the death of a worker. Cambodia continues to rely on its casino industry for additional proceedings to bolster the public purse.

The country, however, has serious problems insofar as social justice is concerned and the disputed region of Sihanoukville is often associated with corruption, deplorable living conditions, and abuse. In September, a Cambodian-Chinese join task force took down an illegal casino in Phnom Penh, the country’s capital, leading to 200 arrests.

Thai illegal immigrants have been repeatedly crossing the border into Cambodia illegally by land and sea to work in Cambodia, particularly in online gambling venues at Chinese casinos in Poipet and Sihanoukville.
UPDATE: The correct answer was "victims".

Cambodia News (Poipet City): At 10:00 am on November 15, 2021, more than 60 Thai immigrant workers have been liberated from the Chinese online gambling facility and returned to the Thai authorities. The victims were forced to work illegally and were sold off from one Chinese employer to another. The victim had to pay 30,000 to 50,000 bahts to buy their freedom back.
Image
Fortunately, the Thai victims were rescued by Cambodian Law Enforcement, after they received a police report from one of the victims through the Thai Embassy in Cambodia.

Despite the success of this raid and rescue, the public have expressed their doubts as to why the Poipet Law Enforcement had no clues about this incident before the Thai Embassy report. The identities of the Chinese employers have not been disclosed.

Duped women, casino staff rescued from Cambodia
published : 16 Nov 2021 at 19:34
writer: Post Reporters

SA KAEO: Police are interviewing three women rescued two weeks ago after being held for ransom in Cambodia, according to the Klong Luek police.

The women, identified only as Jenjira, Pornnapa and Sasinipa, had been lured to work in an online gambling business in Poipet opposite Klong Luek in Aranyaprathet district.

The Klong Luek police said the women were later detained by their Chinese employer who demanded a ransom of 10,000 baht for each of them. They then alerted their families back in Thailand.

The employer threatened to sell the women to a call centre gang in China if the families refused to pay.

The families contacted the Klong Luek police via a chat group on the social media app Line.

Pol Col Chanonpat Sirilert, chief of the Klong Luek police station, got in touch with the Thai-Cambodian border committee in Aranyaprathet district, which notified the Cambodian security agencies and asked them to locate the women.

The agencies raided the location where the women were being held and rescued them before handing them over to the Thai immigration office in Aranyaprathet.

According to the Klong Luek police, after they arrived back in Thailand, the women were put in quarantine for 14 days. Now that this has concluded, local police are questioning them to learn more about the gang.

On Monday, 60 Thais duped into working at an online casino operating out of Cambodia were escorted back to Aranyaprathet district. On hand to welcome them were senior police officers led by the assistant national police chief, Pol Lt Gen Surachate Hakparn.

Their return was secured through the coordinated efforts of the Thai and Cambodian police.

The 60 workers had fallen prey to false job advertisements. After arriving in Cambodia, they were forced to work in slave-like conditions. They claimed that if they refused, they were beaten up.

Their families were ordered to pay a hefty ransom by the online casino owner in return for the workers’ freedom, said Pol Lt Gen Surachate.

Hey! Wake up! Who's the boss here ?

Surely there should be enough news about this to make the Cambodian and Chinese authorities react ? Cambodia is now being repeatedly reported in the international news as a major hub for online slavery in their casinos. A few people are being arrested and deported, but it's always the slaves arrested and never the bosses.

I don't get why this online gambling slavery is still going on if the Chinese authorities have declared war on online gambling and the Cambodian government support this stance. So, who dares to go against these two governments ?
(Surely not the same people that are running meth throughout SEA without a problem ? Chinese triads ?)
