Fake job racket: Puducherry woman manages to escape from Cambodia, 1 held for duping her of Rs 3.25 lakh
According to her complaint, the woman followed an advertisement on a channel offering a telecaller job in Cambodia which promised a salary up to Rs 1 lakh.
Chennai | Updated: September 16, 2022 8:42:38 am

According to her complaint, a woman followed an advertisement on a channel offering a telecaller job in Cambodia which promised a salary up to Rs 1 lakh. When she dialled the number on the screen, the woman came in contact with Murugan of Puducherry and Rajkumar of Chennai.

The duo reportedly asked her to pay Rs 3.25 lakh as processing fee for the visa and informed her that a portion of the amount will be their commission. The police said when the woman reached Cambodia, she was picked up by one John.

However, on reaching the country, the woman realised that she had gone there on a tourist visa. John did offer her a job as a telecaller but it turned out to be a part of a scam. When she refused to take up the job, the woman was assaulted and threatened by John and his associates to pay Rs 2,76,500 else she would be sold to some agent and pushed into prostitution.

The woman was reportedly confined in a room and subjected to mental and physical torture and was threatened that she and her family would be in danger if she reached out to the embassy or any other legal agency. The police said that through some source, the woman managed to escape from the place and returned to India.

After she met the Director General of Puducherry and lodged a complaint, a case was registered by the CB-CID. A special team was formed and the police managed to arrest Murugan within 24 hours. The team has now headed to Chennai to arrest the other accused and will, subsequently, arrest the others involved in the job racket.

The PM has announced a crackdown on illegal gambling throughout Cambodia. The governor of Sihanoukville has declared that he will enforce the orders of the PM immediately.
But will this really put a stop to the notorious exploitation of foreign cyber-workers sold into slavery by Chinese criminal gangs in Sihanoukville and elsewhere in Cambodia ?
It is estimated that hundreds, or even possibly thousands, of illegal workers of many nationalities are being held in compounds in Cambodia where they are forced to work at internet gambling sites and financial scams. Most of these criminal gangs originate from mainland China, but criminals from all over Asia are profiting from the lax Cambodian rules and regulations. (Other traffickers are from Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore,Thailand and Vietnam.)

Preah Sihanouk provincial governor Kuoch Chamroeun issued an order to the Provincial Administrative Unity Command to identify and inspect all legal and illegal business locations where allegations of torture or human trafficking had been made.

Chamroeun issued the order during a meeting of the Unity Command on September 17, which was attended by the deputy governor and officials from all branches of law enforcement and the judiciary.

“Today’s meeting is to review our experience in dealing with cases of human trafficking and to follow the orders of Prime Minister HE, who has commanded a crack down on all kinds of illegal gambling sites across the Kingdom,” he said.

He added that when crimes of this nature were detected, the victims should be rescued and the perpetrators should be convicted.

“If one of our teams discovers that staff are being detained and forced to work, offenders will be fined 2,620,000 riel. If employees are forced to work overtime, offenders will be fined 1,680,000 riel, according to the labour law,” he said.

Chamroeun advised that the authorities should make sure that their teams are clearly defined. They should assign different groups specific tasks, with one to inspect security camera footage, one to take minutes and write up reports, and so on.

“I will assign four deputy provincial governors to lead operations. The military police will be responsible for inspecting suspicious sites,” he said.

Can't stress that it's about time that the authorities strep in to stop this crime. It will be interesting to see the progress and a good outcome.

Totally agree that the Chinese have been really taking the piss and that Cambodia is now so infamous for its cyberslaves that it's shameful.
Lets hope that some combination of Cambodian national pride and Chinese govt ass-kicking will get things moving.

I mean, c'mon Cambodian policemen, we all know where to find the compounds with the cyberslaves - it's all over the fking internet, so you must know too (and we know you read CEO).
Try Sihanoukville's White Sands Hotel and Casino for a start - that's just from memory because I know where it is. (Just a bit further down the road from the PM's Sihanoukville residence by Occheuteal Beach. Big white ugly building on the main road - it's not hard to find.) Then head out to any of the high rise buildings blocks at Otres - you can't miss, the whole place is a big scam centre.
 Hope that helps.

Rumours from Sihanoukville says that everybody packed their stuff and left from there already on Saturday evening. Multiple buses full of people were seen last night leaving from Chinatown. Same sources say that police raided Kaibo hotel in Chinatown on Sunday. But I guess they were 12 hours too late

Việt Nam to repartriate (sic) citizens who fled from Cambodian casino
September, 18/2022 - 16:00
They went towards the Bavet Border Gate, which leads to the Mộc Bài Border Gate in Tây Ninh Province in Việt Nam.
HÀ NỘI — At least 67 Vietnamese people fled a business premise in Bavet City in Cambodia on Saturday and attempted to return to Việt Nam, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

They went towards the Bavet Border Gate, which leads to the Mộc Bài Border Gate in Tây Ninh Province in Việt Nam.

The business the Vietnamese citizens fled from is in Bavet Kandal Hamlet in Bavet City, Svay Rieng Province. Leaders of Tây Ninh Province said that the business premise is a casino.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said that while fleeing, four were caught by the business.

Việt Nam has contacted the Cambodian authorities for information about the case, to verify the people’s identities, and carry out procedures to repatriate the citizens.

Việt Nam also requested Cambodia rescue the remaining people.

By late afternoon on Saturday, Cambodian police demanded the business hand over 11 more Vietnamese citizens, bringing the total number of people involved in the case to 67.

Making it count: Push to end human trafficking proving to be successful
The government is recording a series of successes in its crackdown on human trafficking, illegal labour and sexual trafficking, the latest being the rescue of 137 foreigners believed to have been illegally detained to work at an online gambling centre in Preah Sihanouk province.

The Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration said in a statement yesterday that they were among 495 foreigners detained during a series of raids on the Xing Shanting centre, carried out from September 13 till Saturday, in Sihanoukville’s Bei [3]* commune.

The raids were carried out at three buildings in the centre during which the authorities checked the status of business licences, accommodation and foreign workers.

The other foreigners detained are believed to have knowingly been working illegally in the centre.
