UPDATE
September 12, 2021
Preah Sihanouk expected to launch more raids on The China Project as province reels from first raid
Khmer Times
Preah Sihanouk provincial officials said that the provincial gendarmerie, acting on orders from Military Police Commander General Sao Sokha, is planning massive raids and crackdowns on organised crime, possessions of illegal high-powered weapons, drugs, as well as on extortionists, human traffickers and other activities.
“Interrogation of the 15 suspects, including one female who originates from Shanghai will enable the gendarmerie and provincial police and public prosecutors to carefully plan the next multi location simultaneous raids,” officials who are familiar with the operation but declined identity on Friday, told Khmer Times.
They added that one of the main reasons for the crackdown was the series of detailed exposes made by Khmer Times on what is called The China Project, involving 12 locations and countless number of buildings in Otres 1, Otres 2, Victory Hill, Kang Leu, Ochateal beach and other locations, all of which are heavily protected with very strict entry and exist for workers while inhabitants are not allowed beyond the barricades of each location.
At the police raid on a high-rise building, believed to be housing a hotel and casino at Ocheatel Beach, 15 people, including a female were arrested after suspects fired up to six shots at approaching gendarmerie personnel.
Heavily armed gendarmerie and provincial police raided some rooms in the building and found online and crypto currency gambling and scamming activities, phishing, possible cross boundary and cross territory trafficking from people, bonded slave labour and sex trafficking.
Among the firearms seized from the 15 Chinese nationals, some of whom were heavily tattooed, signifying triad links, include one AK47 assault rifle and one M4 assault rifle, two K54 handguns, one K59 handgun, one black CF98 and one handgun. A vehicle, a black TOYOTA ALPHARD with license plate Phnom Penh 2P-0199 was seized.
According to the report, in this case, the authorities are continuing to search for the mastermind and his accomplices, especially to find the those who had supplied the weapons and ammunition. The suspects and exhibits were taken to the Sihanoukville Provincial Gendarmerie Command for further investigation.

May be it's just me, but I feel like the gangster ring is large enough that participation from Chinese Special Agents on the ground can make the crackdown more effective, though I am sure Cambodian authorities are already in contacts with Chinese counterparts remotely.

Don't expect too much... Almost all the Chinese in Sihanouk are gangsters, not only at this location at Otres... Both gangsters and the police are driving fancy new trucks, etc... So, well, don't expect too much...Pseudonomdeplume wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 3:58 amMy exact thoughts. Not yet. But soon. Standby for further updates.

I was alluding to the public address heads-ups they are giving, so the crims can prepare accordingly. Any of the crooks get out of line, and I guess they will be handed over as a fall goat; the cops will have to show competence now, just as with the drugs war. Either that, or the operations are going to have to be more covert. I imagine there has been a high-level sit-down arranged.orichá wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 7:41 amDon't expect too much... When they replaced the police chief, a few years back, with a fire-cracker from PP, he went on a clean up mission, laser-focused on drugs and derelicts. And it was evident.
Then came a "Nip" in the air, at least, in the phone book*.
It's still "Sinful", but now it's "Chinfull Sinful"
*No Yakusa, but Nip is a common Chinesurname.

Cambodian Woman Worker at Century Casino Dies of COVID-19
Cambodia: COVID-infected Woman Forced To Work By Chinese-owned Casino Dies
A woman in Cambodia, who was employed at a Chinese-owned casino, died after her employers forced her to continue working even though she was infected with COVID
Written By Bhavya Sukheja
A woman in Cambodia, who was employed at a Chinese-owned casino, died after her employers forced her to continue working even though she was infected with COVID-19. According to ANI, the deceased woman, identified as Hean Sreynich, used to work at The Century Casino.
Sreynich contracted the deadly virus five days ago and she died of food poisoning and dehydration, the doctors consulted by the victim’s family said.
Sreynich’s cousin Ros Leng reportedly said that her family has urged Cambodian authorities to order the Chinese owner of the casino to pay them compensation for forcing her to continue working while ill. Leng said that the casino did not inform Sreynich’s relatives about her death or offer to pay them her salary. Leng also added that the family learned about her demise from her coworkers.
The news of Sreynich’s death comes days after it was reported that around 437 employees of The Century Casino had contract COVID-19. A group, in a Facebook live stream, had said that they were forced to perform their jobs, including managing online gambling platforms, while they were ill. The group even claimed that they had been forced to remain inside the building since March without any treatment.
