It is some kind of traditional Khmer skull cracking club. Sometimes seen in "law enforcer' type ceremonial roles.Yobbo wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 5:55 pmWhy does he have a woody phallic symbol on his desk?CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 1:52 pm
Sihanoukville Police Chief, Chuon Narin, is a busy man
I believe the "staff" that the skippers of the om touks use for giving commands and to lead the attack are a derivation.
sorry, not a great photo but the staff/clubs are similarly flattened at the busy end, but longer.
I thought they were stylised paddles but was informed they were clubs.

^^
I believe summary skull cracking by the kings law enforcement officers is a traditional, deeply ingrained, "motif" in Cambodian culture.
My theory is - that is why it was the KR's preferred method of execution, not so much to "save bullets".
There are plenty of free ways to kill a person - using this traditional Khmer method reinforced the "law enforcement" nature of the deed.
"You have transgressed against the King/Angkar". the highest crime.
Donggg..

Guardian of a Vietnamese temple in Kratie province.

He is probably thinking about today's development of this phallic symbol and where it has led. But what does the police force have to fight the new and upcoming gun crimes. It would take a brave or stupid man to bash someone over the head with a stick who was armed with a loaded gun.
It's been seen that hand guns are available to buy on the internet these days, surprising that the authorities have not clamped down on the way that criminals can illegally arm themselves, for it would be a good start to prevent this type of crime.
Always "hope" but never "expect".
