Aircon usage
I'm not a math genius so I need someone who can help me figure this out . We moved from Takhmao to Phnom Penh back into an apartment. In Takhmao, we were paying 820 for electric. At our apartment, we pay a lovely 1200 or .30 per kWh.
I'm a little discouraged. I've been keeping track of our electric and according to our meter, we use about 5 kWh per day. That's a buttload of money every month. I thought our Aircon units in our new place were energy efficient unlike our old house. Does anyone recognize this unit? If so, about how much does it used based on a 12hr cycle. We limit Aircon usage to nighttime only. Thoughts? Anyone have a basic idea about how to figure how much electric appliances use? Thanks!

Re: Aircon usage
Looks the same as mine. Cooling 2.55 kw..... Mine is real cheap to run, cause I never turn it on. [ That's how pensioners survive ]
I try to acclimatize but do use a fan.

Re: Aircon usage
Good to see you JiC - do you have a meter like the one in Duncan's photo? Probably not a bad idea to disconnect everything else for 15 minutes and just run the a/c, and calculate the power consumption that way... (sorry if that's a Captain Obvious response).

Re: Aircon usage
My guess is ,,,,, 2.55 [kw ] x 1200 r = 3,060 r per hour. Not hard to do the maths. multiply by how many hours each night,, x 30 days of the month, = ?

There are variables, aren't there?
kWh
temperature setting
etc.
There are some on-line Air-con Usage Calculators. https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+ ... 8&oe=utf-8

Re: Aircon usage
Thanks everyone! Sure appreciate the help. Good to see everyone. Been a little busy lately! I normally leave it on auto 20° but maybe it never hits 20 so it runs all night. I'll try out the calculator too.

Re: Aircon usage
That couldn't be right. We run it everyday for about 12hrs. So far, we are setting at $117 for this month since April 1.Duncan wrote:My guess is ,,,,, 2.55 [kw ] x 1200 r = 3,060 r per hour. Not hard to do the maths. multiply by how many hours each night,, x 30 days of the month, = ?

Re: Aircon usage
OK, I read my meter one hour ago,,,114.8. Set the temperature at 20 and hit the one hour button. It has just turned off and the meter reads 115.7. Used one kw in one hour. Your aircon must be a bit bigger at 3.55 kw , mine is 2.55 kw,,, although the input W and running amps are the same.
