Why do foreigners refuse to wear a mask?

Post by ressl »

Months ago I had some serious discussions with my boss, who refuses to get vaccinated and wear a mask when he is alone in the office. He is completely resistant for any argument, starting from having couple of people every day in that room and ending with the basic question about who gets protected by the mask. In the end, I gave up on him, but when I was driving down riverside today (which is usually not on my way) I couldn't believe that virtually none of the countless foreigners sitting in the bars and restaurants was wearing a mask; not a single one! I mean, sure, when you have your dinner or beer it gets a bit in the way, but those guys were either just sitting around or chatting in small groups with each other. Maybe having been working for 12 years in the healthcare business makes me a bit sensitive for protective measurements, but can anyone give an explanation why people who supposed to have a certain amount of knowledge behave that careless/ignorant?
Driving on Cambodian roads is just like playing a classic arcade top scroller. The only difference is a force feedback controller, the limitation to only one life and the inability to restart, once Game Over

You said they were in bars and restaurants. So isn't that your answer? Who wears a mask eating and drinking? I've seen foreigners walking on the street, mask-less but wearing them in stores. They're getting better.

Restaurants are supposed to practice social distancing too and some enforce it with an every alternate chair type system or simply get rid of some of the chairs to spread people out. Wasn't there a max. 18 customer requirement or such like?

OTOH, I've noticed other places don't observe this much including some barang oriented restaurants/bars In the Riverside area.

Why am I going to sit in a bar wearing a mask in between sips of beer? Doesn't that sound retarded?

Not as retarded as being dead.
I thought bars are still closed.
An anti-masker who believed the COVID-19 crisis was just a “political” stunt issued an emotional plea to skeptics from his hospital bed — after becoming seriously ill with the virus.

In a Facebook video shared by a pal on Monday, Chuck Stacey gasps for breath as he admits he was wrong about the pandemic that’s killed 1.8 million globally.

“I didn’t wear a mask. I should’ve. I didn’t,” Stacey says with oxygen tubes in his nose. “I believed this was just the flu, that it was all going to go away, that it was political. I didn’t think a mask would help.”

He struggles as he continues, “You don’t want to end up like me. I’m having trouble breathing. I may have to be intubated if I get any worse.”

MEXICO CITY (AP) — A Mexican politician whose steadfast refusal to wear a face mask has interfered with official events during the pandemic confirmed Monday that he is ill with COVID-19.

Gerardo Fernandez Noroña has long been known as the colorful stuntman of Mexican politics, staging lone protests and getting in heated arguments with officials.

He had reported on his social media accounts that he hadn’t been feeling well for days, but was sure that “it’s a very strong cold, or the bug.”

On Monday, however, he wrote, “Just as I feared, I tested positive for covi,” which is how many Mexicans pronounce COVID.

Still pinned to the top of his Twitter feed was a taunting post from Friday, when he tested negative. “The right wing must be dying of rage because of this result,” he wrote.

A member of the Chamber of Deputies, Fernandez Noroña has repeatedly refused to wear a mask at official functions where it was required. In 2020, the National Electoral Institute, at which Fernandez Noroña represents the tiny Labor Party, was forced to suspend a session when he refused to put on a mask as required by the institute’s rules.

I love the way devotees of cheap beer think they are smarter than virologists.

They were in bars and restaurants. Should they put their mask back up between sips of beer or morsels of food? Have you been past any local cafes in the past few months?

I wear a mask every time I'm on the street. Why do you have to generalize about "foreigners"? :assasin:

Because masks don't stop the spread ov covid.
And if you did get it, chances are you won't even know

Maybe one reason for not getting vaccinated in Cambodia is that the only vaccine available in Cambodia is the vaccine from China which is only 2-3% effective against the Delta covid strain which is claiming around 20,000 daily in Thailand.... Many of those vaccinated with the Chinese vaccine.
