It seems that some hard line Wahhabiist style Islamist groups are leading the resistance at the moment. Blowing stuff up all over the country. ISIS offshoots, even some elements of Al Qaeda apparently.

So the nature of the contest is likely to be more covert, and not as strictly 'territorial', than the traditional resistance to the Taliban from the ethnic groups.
Probably less visible, possibly more effective.
