'American Dave' Isn't Welcome at Star Bar in Siem Reap

'I don't like posting in this group (too many idiots) but feel it's necessary after my experience this evening in Star Bar and I'm sure the owner will explain what happened and apologise to my partner, as he knows and accepts he made a mistake. To his credit, he retracted what he had said but it came too late. It isn't necessarily his fault and I'm sure he's a decent man, but he's attracted a 'certain kind of clientele', perhaps through desperation in the current circumstances, which is understandable right now.
To cut to the chase.

I went for a meeting with my colleagues there and my Khmer partner came to collect me.
He was told by the owner on entering that he was barred as he is 'American Dave'. He is nothing of the sort and born and bred Khmer from Siem Reap. We were both demeaned by the experience . When I remonstrated, the entire bar set upon us. The owner realised his error and withdrew his accusation, but still, his partner and the clientele continued to spit vitriol at my partner and I.
Ask yourself if you would accept a bar owner wrongly accusing your partner of being someone they aren't, then subsequently allowing the clientele in your bar to round on that person aggressively for something they didn't do.
If you think it's fine, no discussion. Over and out.
Just don't go there and please don't post stupid comments. The owner apologised for his stupidity, fine, but I want to make sure this never happens to other Khmer people here.
Anyway, I'm sure the owner will explain the unfolding of events sooner or later and he'll say exactly what happened, however embarrassing and damaging that might be to his business.
I wish him all the luck in the world. It's difficult sustaining a business here right now so the moral of the story is not to antagonise decent customers'

I'm sure I'm not the only person baffled and wondering WTF the point of this story is? What has American Dave done anyway?

Maybe she's new in town and he's Laos Steve, the guy who got gassed on the bus and just needs a few dollars to get to the nearest church?

Based on the comments in that post, seems SR folk have made up their own moniker of "American Dave" for "Scammer Steve"

And why did they go and do that? It is hard enough to keep track of all the scammers as it is.

"The entire bar set upon us".
I've never seen more than 2 customers in Star bar. That still counts as the entire bar I suppose. Sly choice of words, did this guy work for Bill Clinton?
