UPDATE: Seven Unicity Officials Arrested; Two "Students" Test Positive for Covid-19

Cambodia News, (Takeo Province): The Takeo Provincial Court on August 18, 2021, remanded six Unicity executives in custody for organizing an unauthorized sales meeting of 386 people, violating the government's ban on gatherings at a time when the country is experiencing an outbreak of Covid 19.
The event took place on August 15 at the Unicity Center in Borey Reaksmey in Roka commune, Daun Keo city, Takeo.

Takeo Provincial Court President Aak Phalla told reporters: "The Investigating Judge of Takeo Provincial Court has decided to detain only six of the seven Unicity officials in custody, because the seventh person is a pregnant woman and she has been released temporarily".

Mr. Chiv Chandara, Prosecutor of Takeo Provincial Court, said that the seven suspects, who are Unicity chiefs, had been charged by the prosecution in accordance with the law on measures to prevent the spread of Covid 19 under Article 11.

Pursuant to the Law on Measures to Prevent the Spread of Covid 19 and Other Deadly and Infectious Diseases, Article 11 states: In accordance with the law, he was sentenced to 6 months to 3 years in prison and fined from 2 million to 10 million riels.

If the above case causes the transmission of Covid-19 disease to others or seriously affects public health, they shall be punished by imprisonment from 2 to 5 years and a fine from 5 million to 20 million riels.

More arrests for suspected UNICITY fraud in Kampot/Kep:

Cambodia News, (Takeo Province): Police in Tram Kak District, Takeo Province, on August 2, 2022, arrested two men representing UNICITY on charges of defrauding people in Kampot and Takeo Provinces of tens of thousands of dollars with a campaign luring local people in Tram Kak district to do business with their fraudulent company, UNICITY.

Colonel Duk Thiya, Tram Kak District Police Inspector, said that the arrest of the above suspects occurred after four people came to file a complaint for fraud to the Tram Kak district authorities against the two suspects, who acted as distributors of Unicity City products
Tram Kak District Inspector continued that the victim who filed the first complaint, Chan Chi, male, 35 years old, in Damnak Chheu Kram Village, Snay Anhchet Commune, Chum Kiri District, was defrauded of $ 28,000 and 6 million Riels. Second, Nop Channa, a 40-year-old female in Bramoul village, Trameng commune, Chhuk district, Kampot province, was robbed of $ 38,300 by the suspect; The suspect swindled $ 7,000 and the fourth, Sim Him, a 38-year-old female in Damnak Trop village, Kraing Snay commune, was defrauded of $ 40,000.

According to Tram Kak District Inspector Duk Thiya, after receiving the complaint, the two suspects were detained for questioning.
