I think I’m Centrist, but that the Overton Window has been dragged to the Right over the past few decades by concerted manipulation of bad actors. For example it blows my mind the degree with which Corbyn got labelled an insane commie for his plan to nationalise the railways, when I myself am old enough to remember how controversial the privatisation of the railways was, and I’m not even that old.Jerry Atrick wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 11:59 amI think Centre left and right have more in common than not, but notedxandreu wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 11:48 am I think most people would class themselves as somewhere around the middle but either centre left or centre right. You should have added those as options.
Most people are uncomfortable labelling themselves as either Leftie or Rightist as it makes them appear extreme on either side, which most people aren't.
I had to choose Centrist but I'm definitely more centre right than centre left.
So I guess I should say I’m leftist?
I like Singapore’s system of an open corporate state. You’re free to set up your own taxi company or hospital or telco or university or bank or whatever else you want. The Government will even give you all kinds of incentives to help you along, but you’ll be competing with a state-owned company who have a remit to work for the public good. It’s an elegant solution that lets you have the benefits of an Authoritarian Socialist state with fewer of the drawbacks.

I like Singapore's system too. I feel a bit for HK and Taiwan, with the former's promised freedom to maintain their cultural and economic differences threatened, and China is supposed to have no control over the latter (although Taiwan are tax-exempt to China), but they seem to try.

Market regulation is like communism to capitalism in the free market & lacks the excuses needed to sell out for the benefit of a political party! But I fully agree!!!nerdlinger wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 11:00 pmI think I’m Centrist, but that the Overton Window has been dragged to the Right over the past few decades by concerted manipulation of bad actors. I remember a class discussion at school in a long forgotten decade, when communism was still the bogey man.
The teacher (paraphrased) said “the last real communist was Jesus”
Ignore the various debates about religion, etc, the consideration wasn’t lost on even us, a bunch adolescents.

I have no interest in politics, since it became clear that I could not be elected as a totalitarian leader. Damn those little people, the under-classes. Don't they know whats good for them?

I suppose that the agreement here is that no foreigners are to get involved with any political views of their own, that certainly is no concern to themselves, in a country that they are considered that of guests of that country.
The political views of one's own country is understandable if you are such motivated or have concerns in what areas you may feel fit.

Always "hope" but never "expect".
