What's a good gift to give Khmers?
I've been incapacitated at home for a while and my neighbours (an extended family) have been very kindly looking out for me, offering help and bringing food / water.
I'd like to get them something as a thank you. They're not really drinkers (and booze is banned so that's out). A gift of money seems a bit crass, plus, they're not really hard up and the cash value of what they've given me would be fairly small.
Any ideas of something they can all share in?
Cheers

Buy lots of nice fruit and make a basket.

Never met a Khmer who didn't like a good meal.

That's not a bad idea. You can buy pre-prepared gift baskets containing a mixture of stuff that Khmers will appreciate.
Not sure if they are still there, but on Monivong just south of the Sihanouk Blvd lights, there was a whole bunch of similar gift basket shops.

One of those tapestry things. Pretty expensive though.

Food is always a good bet as a gift in SE Asia. Khmers do love to eat and snack. Plus food can be shared.
I was thinking of some kind of cakes / pastries splurge but the fruit basket is a good idea.
Thanks

Add a tin of those Danish butter/shortbread biscuits to your basket.

Totally agree. Many fruit sellers will sell the presentation baskets as well. Some fruit is really expensive therefore a luxury many will not buy for themselves. Off course the smelly king-of-fruit durian can fetch high prices but imported fruits like grapes and cherries are also very expensive when available.

The gift baskets that I mentioned above will include a tin of biscuits, and probably a bottle of Hennessy. Of course, there are various baskets at a range of prices.timmydownawell wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 4:02 pm Add a tin of those Danish butter/shortbread biscuits to your basket.

If I may jump in here, are those widely available in KoW?timmydownawell wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 4:02 pm Add a tin of those Danish butter/shortbread biscuits to your basket.
Loved them since I was a kid.
