Gambling debt resulting in suicide or murder. Who knows? I've never even been in a casino, I don't understand the attraction.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

If you were wanting to Suicide why would you jump from the first floor of a 14 floor building and chance living ? Surly you would go to the roof top.

Mind you if shoe was on other foot and it was a falang in Thailand it would already be deemed Suicide case closed.

I used to go to casinos sometimes with friends, but you take only the money you are prepared to lose and we would make up on the free drinks. Long time ago anyhow, and I'm not a gambler by nature.John Bingham wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 7:47 pm Gambling debt resulting in suicide or murder. Who knows? From what the OP says, the Thai man was a serious gambler (had a casino card), so yeah, I'd go with a bad run of luck and suicide. Sad ending.
And why would you kill someone who owes you money ? Doesn't make sense.

It makes a lot of sense. It discourages other punters from trying to fuck you over. Drug dealers do it, so I'd imagine gangsters in other fields do too.Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 8:27 pm And why would you kill someone who owes you money ? Doesn't make sense.

I think this is something I don't understand with the Chinese that go there to gamble. With all the kidnappings, extortion, suicides, murders related to this, it seems like they are not losing just their shirt but then some (actually a lot).. I mean can they not leave after they've lost all their money? Are there loan sharks roaming around the tables pushing loans? Punters figure they will win back what they've lost?Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 8:27 pmI used to go to casinos sometimes with friends, but you take only the money you are prepared to lose and we would make up on the free drinks. I know in my younger days playing the pokies I would put too much into a machine thinking I can't leave it till it paid back what I'd lost but in the end it wasn't too much money.. OTOH these guys are obviously getting into heaps of gambling debts big time...enough it seems that it results in suicide, extortion, kidnappings etc

Well as I alluded to, I don't really get gambling at all. However I have heard countless tales of people losing not just their shirt but their car, house, overseas properties etc. So for example a fairly affluent "foreigner" might move here and open a business. Unfortunately he likes gambling too much. Gradually he loses all his capital, and in the endless mental cycle of a gambler thinks he can win it back. He pawns his car, his premises and then goes to a loan shark to get some more cash. He defaults on this. Then some Triad fuckers turn up. Where's the money motherfucker? Call your wife in China, we know where she lives. Get her to send you $50,000. Sell your house in China. When they get the money they can still get rid of the mark just to cover the trail. Lucky these guys are only targeting mainlanders so far.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Sat Jul 31, 2021 10:55 pm I think this is something I don't understand with the Chinese that go there to gamble. Just to add, I do know people who have done very well from gambling. Poker players etc. I'm more talking about the hopeless ones who lose at chance games.
