Cambodian Customs Seize Buffalo Meat from India
Cambodia News (Kompong Speu Province): On July 26, 2021, 3 cargo containers full of frozen buffalo meat were confiscated by the Cambodian Customs.
They will be sent to be burnt in the Oral district within the next 2 to 3 days, in order to avoid the spreading of Covid19, as burying would still be a hazard according to the Kompong Speu provincial governor, Vy Somnang. He also reminded the public that customers should be aware of the origin of the meat products before purchasing.

Taken from the CDC website (find link below)
"The risk of infection by the virus from food products, food packaging, or bags is thought to be very low. Currently, no cases of COVID-19 have been identified where infection was thought to have occurred by touching food, food packaging, or shopping bags. "
I have no idea why this is even news, tbh. The fear-mongering is on overdrive these days.

EXACTLY. The Oral district chief must have ties to, or an IOU from, the Kampong Speu governor. It will be 'burned' on his BBQ and enjoyed by his family and friends, with any deemed excess sold.
These bullshit news stories that try to pretend Cambodia and its leaders are all about doing the honorable and 'right' thing' for its people make me want to puke.

That governor is the one who ordered all the beer signs in the province removed and replaced with public health messages a few weeks ago.
Seems he is vigilant about public health.

From the Khmer Times:

Bone of contention: C-19 find on frozen imported meat sparks controversy
The Ministry of Health yesterday announced the discovery of Covid-19 traces on frozen buffalo meat, imported from India, from three out of five containers.
However, the exporters have refuted this finding saying meat samples underwent testing in advanced labs in India and they were all found to be SARS-COV-2-negative.
They also questioned how Covid-19 can lay dormant and live for the almost three months it takes for the meat to be shipped from India, when there is no scientific evidence that the virus can survive for so long on surfaces.
The Health Ministry said it conducted a virological analysis virus on five containers of frozen buffalo meat at the Tri-Khod dry port in Phnom Penh.
It said the frozen buffalo meat was imported by two companies Bovini Food Co Ltd and Ashary Investment & Construction.
After the discovery of buffalo meat containing the virus, Kun Nhim, Director General of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, said that the two companies are cooperating with a joint working group to destroy the meat in accordance with the procedures in force.
In a statement obtained by Khmer Times, the two Indian exporters said they had tested samples of the buffalo meat in ISO 17025 accredited labs in India and they were all found to be free from the virus.
In view of the conflicting results in India and Cambodia, the Indian exporters, through the Embassy of India and their importers in Cambodia, have requested the Ministry of Health and the Adhoc Covid-19 Committee to retest fresh samples from the same containers to reconfirm the test results and if possible conduct testing in an advanced lab in Singapore.
They said any finding of a genome is not an indication of an active virus since the containers left India in April 2021 and reached Cambodia in July 2021.
It said that there is no scientific evidence to prove that Covid-19 virus can survive on food and food packaging material for a period of almost three months.

Same as any meat really
depends on what it's been fed,
how much exercise and other natural life functions it is allowed
and how contented it is.
A bit like a woman - it's according to your taste
some like lot-fed supermarket, some like it more au naturale
and of course - if you are man enough to hunt up your own, it will be a million times tastier than anything you can buy.

Re: Cambodian Customs Seize Buffalo Meat from India
I've had buffalo steak from Dan's Meats that was really tender and good. There are (or used to be) some local places on 19 south of 240 that specialize in buffalo meat but it's more like jerky style. Tasty but chewy.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
